Okorocha sacks Imo varsity VC Prof. Awuzie takes charge

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has sacked the Acting Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Bertram E.B. Nwoke.

In his place is the immediate past National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie.

As at the time of filing this report, the real reason for his sack was not known, but there were other unconfirmed reasons behind the sack.

While one story had it that he was sacked because of admission racketeering, offering admission to more non-indigenes than Imo indigenes because of the N150, 000 they had to pay as tuition fee as against the N100, 000 by Imo indigenes.

Another story had it that he resigned because of the governor’s insincerity in the state’s Free Education Programme.

According to the second story, it is believed that the governor had given the impression that the N100,000 to be paid to Imo indigenes as scholarship would leave them with a lot of money with which to solve other personal problems after paying their tuition which was N30,000 at the inception of Okorocha’s regime.

But the tuition was increased to N100, 000 and they were asked to collect it from their traditional rulers and pay at once to the school, a development which the former vice-chancellor considered a business-like game which would not benefit the students.
