GENERAL REQUIREMENT

The University requires five (5) CREDITS including English Language at Ordinary Level (GCE, WASC, SSCE, NECO and NABTEB) for ALL courses and credit in MATHEMATICS at Ordinary Level for SCIENCE, SOCIAL SCIENCES, MANAGEMENT SCIENCES and EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT courses.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. FACULTY OF ARTS

A. Department of African Languages
M. A. Yoruba Literature & Culture.
Candidates for admission into the degree of M.A. Yoruba Literature and Culture must possess any of the following qualifications from Lagos State University or from other institutions recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University:
a. Bachelor’s Degree in Yoruba NOT below Second Class Division.
b. Bachelor’s Degree in Yoruba or Yoruba Education provided all core courses were taken and passed by such candidate;
c. B.A. Yoruba Communication Arts;
d. Candidates will be required to take a qualifying examination to determine their suitability for the programme.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

B. Department of History & International Studies
1. M. A. in History and Diplomacy:
Candidates seeking admission into the M. A. History and Diplomacy are required to possess at least:
a. A good Bachelor’s degree in History and International Studies of the Lagos State University not below the Second Class (Lower) Division, OR
b. A Bachelor’s degree in History and its variants of any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University, OR
c. A Bachelors degree in Humanities or Social Sciences adjudged as acceptable to the Department and the Senate of Lagos State University.
d. Five credit passes including English, History or Government at the ‘O’ Level as basic requirement.
e. Candidates must take and pass a (written essay) qualifying examination administered by the University.

DURATION:
M. A. History and Diplomacy runs for Four (4) Semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters (the final semester being fully devoted to writing the dissertation).

2. Masters in International Relations and Strategic Studies (MIRSS):
Candidates seeking admission into the Master’s programme in International Relations and Strategic Studies (MIRSS) shall possess any of the following qualifications:
a. A Second Class Lower Division Bachelor’s Degree from the Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University, OR
b. A Higher National Diploma (Upper Credit) or its equivalent with a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies of the Lagos State University, OR
c. A Third Class Bachelors Degree from any University recognized by the Senate of the Lagos State University with a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies of the Lagos State University.
d. Five Credit Passes including English at the ‘O’ Level as basic requirement.

Candidates will be required to pass a qualifying examination administered by the University.
Duration:
This programme runs for a minimum of six (6) semesters and maximum of eight (8) semesters.

3. Post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies (PGDIRSS):
Candidates seeking admission into the Post-Graduate Diploma programme in International Relations and Strategic Studies (PGDIRSS) are required to possess at least:

a. A Bachelor’s degree in History and International Studies of the Lagos State University at the Third Class Division OR
b. A Third Class Degree in History and its variants of any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University OR
c. A Third Class Degree in Humanities or Social Sciences adjudged as acceptable to the Department and Senate of Lagos State University OR
d. A Higher National Diploma (Upper Credit) or its equivalent, or with Lower Credit with at least three years post-qualification experience.
e. Five Credit Passes including English at the ‘O’ Level as basic requirement. Candidates will be required to pass a qualifying examination administered by the University.

DURATION: This programme runs for a minimum of four (4) Semesters.

4. M.Phil. / Ph.D. History and Diplomacy:

Candidates seeking admission into the M.Phil / Ph.D. programme must possess M. A. in History and Diplomacy from the Lagos State University or any other recognized Universities with a CGPA of not less than 3.5.

Duration:Minimum of six (6) semesters.
5. Ph.D. History and Diplomacy:

Candidates applying for direct Ph.D. admission must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of not less than 4.0 at the M. A. level from the Department of History and International Studies of the Lagos State University. Holders of M. A. History from other Universities would be required to enrol for the M.Phil / Ph.D. programmes of the Department in the first instance.

DURATION: Minimum of six (6) Semesters and maximum of ten (10) Semesters.

C. Department of Religions
i. PGD Christian Religious Studies
An immersion programme for non-graduates of Religions to integrate them into studies for higher degrees in Christian Religious Studies.
Duration: Minimum of two (2) semesters and maximum of four (4) semesters.

ii. M.A Christian Religious Studies
Holders of first Degree in Christian Studies with at least Second Class Lower Division from Lagos State University or any other Universities recognized by the Senate.

Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters.

iii. M.Phil. /Ph.D. Christian Religious Studies
a. Admission into the programme shall normally be given to candidates with M.A. Christian Studies.
b. Candidates with Master’s Degree with a CGPA of at least 3.5 of 5.0 point scale
c. All Candidates must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity, maturity and effective decision making on problem-solving potentials.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and maximum of ten (10) semesters.

iv. PGD Islamic Studies
An immersion programme for non-graduates of Religions to integrate them into studies for higher degrees in Islamic Studies

Duration: Minimum of two (2) semesters and maximum of four (4) semesters.

v. M.A Islamic Studies

Holders of first Degree in Islamic Studies with at least Second Class Lower Division from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate.

Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters.

vi. M.Phil./Ph.D. Islamic Studies
a. Admission into the programme shall normally be given to candidates with M.A. Islamic Studies.
b. Candidates with Master’s Degree with a CGPA of at least 3.5 of 5.0 point scale
c. All Candidates must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity, maturity and effective decision making on problem solving potentials.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters..

vii. Ph.D. Islamic Studies
The programme is open to candidates with 4.0 CGPA in M.A Islamic Studies and candidates with Master’s Degree of other recognized universities and whose transcripts are adjudged to be adequate or required to take courses as the Department may prescribe.
Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and maximum of ten (10) semesters.

D. Department of English

M. A. English
Candidates seeking admission into the Degree programme of M. A. English Language or M.A. Literature in English must possess:
a. Bachelor’s Degree in English Language, Linguistics or Literature in English NOT below Second Class Lower Division of Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters.

E. Department of Foreign Languages
Master in Translation and Interpretation (MTI)
a. M.T.I is a professional course. At least a Second Class Honours degree in French, Portuguese or Arabic from the Lagos State University or its equivalent from a recognised University. Graduates of Postgraduate Diploma from recognised institutions can also apply for the programme.
b. Candidates may be required to satisfy all Departmental requirements in a qualifying examination before admission.
Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and maximum of eight (8) semesters.

i. M.A. Arabic Studies
All candidates seeking admission into this programme must have obtained a first honours degree in Arabic or Islamic Studies or a combined degree involving either or both of the disciplines. Candidates whose first degree involves only Islamic Studies could be admitted provided that.
They can satisfy the department that they have a satisfactory level of competence in Arabic and Literature; or to be specified by the Department
Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters.
ii. M.Phil. /Ph.D. Arabic Studies
Candidates seeking admission into this programme shall be subject to fulfillment of the minimum requirements specified by the Postgraduate School (3.5 CGPA), as well as satisfactory performance in the compulsory courses.
Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters.

iii. Ph.D. Arabic Studies
Candidates must possess a good Master’s Degree in Arabic from a recognized University with a CGPA not below 4.0
Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and maximum of (10) semesters.

iv. M.A. French
Candidates seeking admission into M.A French Programme must possess:
a. Second Class Honours Degree in French or its equivalent from a recognized University.
b. However, candidates are required to satisfy all Departmental requirements in a qualifying examination before admission.
Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters.

v. M.Phil./Ph.D. French
Candidates seeking admission into M.Phil/Ph.D. French Programme must possess:
a. A Master’s Degree with a CGPA of at least 3.5 of 5.0 point scale
b. However, candidates are required to satisfy all Departmental requirements in a qualifying examination before admission.
Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters.

vi. Ph.D. French
a. Ph.D. is restricted to holders of an M.A. Degree in French from a recognized University with a CGPA not below 4.0
b. M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree in French.
Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and maximum of twelve (12) semesters.

F. Department of Theatre Arts and Music

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES IN THEATRE ARTS

i. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD) THEATRE ARTS
Candidates applying for the Postgraduate Diploma in Theatre Arts should have obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) with Third Class or Pass or Master of Arts (M.A) degree of the Lagos state university or any other university recongnised by the University Senate in areas other than Theatre, Performing, Dramatic, Creative, Media, Communication and Language Arts. Such degrees should be from the Humanities, Law, Social Sciences, Management Sciences and Communication Studies and related disciplines. Candidate with Higher National Diplomas in the areas listed above with requisite working experience are also eligible for admission. In addition, prospective candidates are also expected to take and pass Postgraduate Qualifying Examination.
Duration: Minimum of two (2) semesters and maximum of four (4) semesters.

i. M.A. THEATRE ARTS
Holders of First Degree in Theatre, Performing, Creative, Dramatic, Visual, or Media Arts or other related disciplines with at least Second Class Lower Division of Lagos State University or other universities recongnised by the Senate of Lagos State University and holders of Postgraduate Diploma in Theatre Arts and related disciplines with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 shall be eligible for admission. In addition, prospective candidates are also expected to take and pass the Postgraduate qualifying examination.

Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters.

ii. M.Phil /Ph.D THEATRE ARTS
Candidates for admission shall be holders of First Degree (Honours) Second Class Lower Division. Admission into the programme shall be open to candidates with M.A. Theatre Arts, Performing, Creative, Dramatic, Visual or Media Arts of Lagos State University or any other University recognised by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Duration:The programme is minimum of six [6] semesters.

iii. Ph.D THEATRE ARTS
Admission into the programme is open to candidates with 4.0 CGPA in M.A. Theatre Arts programme of Lagos State University. Candidates with the Master’s degree of other Universities recognised by the Senate of Lagos State University and whose transcripts are adjudged to be adequate for the course shall be eligible for admission. Such candidates, however, may be required to take courses at lower levels as the Department may prescribe.
Candidate applying for the M. Phil/ PhD with background other than a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Performing, Creative, Media, Communication and Language Arts and Dramatic Arts shall be required to possess either a two year Diploma or one – year Postgraduate Diploma in any of the areas listed above. Prospective candidates are expected to present a proposal of study to the Department in addition to the qualifying examination.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and maximum of twelve (12) semesters.
Ph.D. candidates are expected to specialize in the following fields of the Theatre and Cultural Studies:
a)Theatre History
b) Dramatic Literature, Theory and criticism
c) Creative Arts Marketing
d) Development Communication (Theatre for Development)
e) Children’s Theatre
f) Dance and Choreography
g) Play / Scriptwriting
h) Directing
i) Acting, Mime and Speech
j) Film and Media Arts
k) Cultural Studies
l) Tourism and Events Management
m) Theatre and Production Design

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES IN MUSIC
(i) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Music
Holders of First Degree in Music with Third Class Division or a pass of Lagos State University and other Universities recognised by the Senate of the Lagos State University, holders or First Degree in other fields of study with at least Second Class Lower Division and holders of Higher National Diploma (H.N.D) in music with Upper Credit to take and pass postgraduate qualifying examination.

(ii) M.A. MUSIC
Holders of First Degree in Music with at least Second Class Lower Division of Lagos State University and other Universities recognised by the Senate of Lagos State University and holders of Postgraduate Diploma in Music with CGPA of 3.0 shall be eligible for admission. In addition, prospective candidates are also expected to take and pass postgraduate qualifying examination.

Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and maximum of six [6] semesters.

(iii) M.Phil/Ph.D DEGREE IN MUSIC

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.
The M.Phil/PhD programme is 2 semesters minimum and maximum of 4 semesters. Admission to the programme shall be open to candidates with M.A. Music.

(iii) Ph.D DEGREE IN MUSIC
Admission into the programme is open to candidates with 4.0 CGPA in M.A. Music programme of Lagos State University. Candidates with the Master’s degree of other Universities recognised by the Senate of Lagos State University and whose transcripts are adjudged to be adequate for the course shall be eligible for admission. Such candidates, however, may be required to take courses at lower levels as the Department may prescribe.
M.Phil/Ph.D candidate adjudged as having satisfied the Departmental Board of Examiners in the M.Phil./Ph.D programme can be advised to proceed to Ph.D and the Registration made retroactive.

Duration: Minimum of six (6) semesters and maximum of twelve (12) semesters.
Areas of Specialization:
Ph.D. candidates for the Music programme shall specialize in one of the following areas:

i) Ethnomusicology /African music
ii) Music composition
iii) Music performance and Management
iv) Music production and management
v) Music Education
vi) Musicology

2. FACULTY OF EDUCATION
A. Postgraduate Diploma in Education
a. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree of Lagos State University or other Universities recognized by the Senate.
b. Candidates with Higher National Diploma (not below Lower Credit) from recognized polytechnics or equivalents.
c. All candidates must possess at least five (5) credits at the Ordinary Level (G.C.E, WASC, NECO) at not more than two (2) sittings or Grade II Teacher’s Certificate in related subjects.
Duration: Minimum of 2 semesters and maximum of 4 semesters.

B. Department of Educational Foundations and Counselling Psychology

i. M.Ed Counseling Psychology
Candidates seeking admission into each of the programmes are required to possess
a. At least a Second Class Lower Division in Education of Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
b. Postgraduate Diploma Degree in Education in addition to a First Degree in other disciplines, such as Arts, Social Science and Sciences, from the Lagos State University and other similar institution recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
c. Third class honours in Education plus Postgraduate Diploma in Education at a credit level.

i Candidates with a minimum of 3.5 CGPA in Master of Education (in the area of specialization) from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
ii. Candidates with a minimum of 4.0 CGPA in Master of Education (in relevant areas of specialization) from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
In addition, Candidate must possess any of:
a. Five credit passes at O’ level or Teacher Grade II certificate including English Language
b. LASU Foundation Certificate

d. Holders of relevant Higher National Diploma (HND), Upper Credit in Science and Social Sciences based courses recognized by the Senate of the Lagos State University.
e. Holders of relevant National Diploma (HND, Lower Credit) plus Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Resource Management or Environmental Education.
Duration: Minimum of Four (4) Semeste

iv. M.Sc in Environmental Education

vi. M.Phil/Ph.D in Environmental Education/Environmental Resource Management.
a. Minimum of five (5) ordinary level credit pass which must include Mathematics and English Language.
b. Holders of first degree in Science and Social Sciences based courses with minimum of second class honours lower recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
c. Intending M.Phil/Ph.D students should have a Master’s Degree in Environmental Education/Environmental Resources Management from Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University with a minimum of 3.5 for M.Phil 4.0 for Ph.D
Duration: The Minimum period of a full time study of M.Phil/Ph.D Degree shall be for eight (8) Semesters. Initial two (2) semesters for course work leading to conversion to Ph.D Students are required to register every session to maintain their studentship.

vii. Ph.D. in Environmental Education/Environmental Resource Management.
a. Minimum of five (5) ordinary level credit pass which must include Mathematics and English Language.
b. Holders of relevant first degree in Science and Social Sciences, based courses with minimum of second class honours lower recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
c. Intending Doctoral students should have a Master’s Degree in Environmental Education/Environmental Resources Management from Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University with a minimum of 4.0/ 5.0 CGPA for Ph.D.
Duration: The Minimum period of a full time study of Ph.D Degree shall be for six (6) Semesters. Students are required to register in every session to maintain their studentship.

4. CENTRE FOR PLANNING STUDIES
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Planning Studies.
Candidates should possess any of the following:
a. Honours Degree not below Third Class in any discipline from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
b. Holders of HND or its equivalent in any field from Polytechnics or similar institutions recognized by Senate of Lagos State University NOT below Lower Credit Division.
c. Any professional qualification like NIA, MTP, CIT, NIS, MVS and IOB.
d. Professional Certificate awarded in the Maritime and Aviation Industries certified to be equivalent to a first Degree or Higher National Diploma (by relevant authority).
Duration: Three (3) semesters

ii. Master in Urban and Regional Planning
The Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) Programme is organized as a professional programme
Admission into Masters of Urban and Regional Planning is open to the following categories of candidates:
a. Graduates of the Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University who hold a Bachelor of Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Environmental sciences, Environmental Management Sciences, Engineering and Law Faculties.
b. Holders of Full Professional Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit Level Pass in Town Planning, Estate Management, Surveying, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying, Engineering and Architecture.
c. Holders of the Postgraduate Diploma in Planning Studies of the Lagos State University who in addition have a minimum of Lower Credit in the Higher National Diploma awarded by a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology in Town Planning, Estate Management, Surveying, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying, Engineering and Architecture.
d. In addition to the above, candidates must meet the University Matriculation requirements including Mathematics and English Language at not more than two sittings.
Duration: Minimum of Four (4) semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

5. FACULTY OF ENGINEERING
A. Department of Chemical and Polymer Engineering
i. PGD Chemical and Polymer Engineering
a. To qualify for admission, candidates must hold a B.Sc degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemical and Polymer Engineering with a minimum of Third Class .
b. B.Sc degree in any other degree courses in Engineering and related Science courses
DURATION: Minimum of three (3) semesters.

ii. M.Sc. Chemical and Polymer Engineering
Candidates must possess:
a. Bachelor of Science Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in Chemical and Polymer Engineering of Lagos State University or any other approved University.
b. Candidates may be required to satisfy the Department in a selection process before admission.
c. Candidates must also satisfy other admission requirements of the Postgraduate School of the Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

iii. M.Phil/Ph.D. Chemical and Polymer Engineering
a. To qualify for the programme candidate must have M.Sc. in Chemical and Polymer Engineering with 3.5 CGPA
b. Candidates must also satisfy other admission requirements of the Postgraduate School of the Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

iv. Ph.D. Chemical and Polymer Engineering
a. To be eligible for admission candidates must hold a Master of Science degree in chemical/ polymer Engineering of Lagos State University and shall normally have obtained a CGPA of 4.00 average coursework for Master degree
b. An M.Phil/Ph.D. degree in chemical/ Polymer Engineering or other relevant discipline of Lagos State University or other approved university
c. Candidates in the M.Phil/Ph.D. programme who must have satisfied the course work requirement could be permitted to convert to the Ph.D programme
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 10 semesters.

B. Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic & Computer Engineering
All candidadtes must have five credit passes at O’level including English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
a. B.Sc. Electrical, Electronic Engineering or Computer Engineering with a minimum of Third (3rd) Class Degree.
b. HND with a minimum of Lower Credit in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering/ Science.
c. B.Sc. Degree in Mathematics, Physics and any Engineering discipline with a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division).
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

ii. M.Sc. Electronic and Computer Engineering
Candidates seeking admission into M.Sc. Electronic and Computer Engineering must possess the following qualifications:
a. A first Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering.
b. A first Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in Computer Science or Mathematics or Physics/Electronics PLUS Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic and Computer Engineering of Lagos State University with a minimum of Upper Credit.
c. HND with a minimum of Lower Credit in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Engineering/Science PLUS Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic and Computer Engineering of Lagos State University with a minimum of Upper Credit.
Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters.

iii. M.Phil/Ph.D Electronic and Computer Engineering
Application for admission into M.Phil/Ph.D Electronic and Computer Engineering must possess M.Sc in Electronic and Computer/Electrical Engineering or its equivalent from Lagos State University or any recognized University with a minimum of CGPA of 3.5
Duration: Minimum of six [6] semesters.

iv. Ph.D Electronic and Computer Engineering
Applicants for admission into Ph.D Electronic and Computer Engineering shall be graduates of Lagos State University or any other Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University with M.Sc in Electronic and Computer Engineering with CGPA of 4.0 and above

C. Department of Mechanical Engineering
i. M.Sc Mechanical Engineering
(i) A Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of technology Degree of the Lagos State University or any approved University, in Mechanical Engineering of related Engineering discipline at a minimum of Second Class Lower Division and O’ Level requirements for admission into the Bachelor’s Programme in Engineering.
(ii) A minimum of Upper Credit in the Postgraduate Diploma Programme of Lagos State University or any approved University in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
(iii) Candidates may be required to satisfy all Department requirements in a qualifying examination before admission.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

ii. M.Phil/Ph.D Mechanical Engineering
a. M.Sc Degree in Mechanical Engineering of Lagos State University or its equivalent from any approved University with a minimum Cumulative Grade Points Average of 3.50 is required to qualify a candidate for admission into the M.Phil/Ph.D Programme.
Duration: Minimum of6 semesters.

iii. Ph.D Mechanical Engineering
a. M.Sc Degree in Mechanical Engineering of Lagos State University or its equivalent from any approved University with a minimum Cumulative Grade Points Average of 4.0 is required to qualify a candidate for admission into the Ph.D Programme.
b. A Candidate registered for the M.Phil/Ph.D who has scored a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.50 may at the end of the course work transfer to candidature of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree programme.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 10 semesters.
6. FACULTY OF LAW
A. Master of Law (LL.M General Law)
a. A Law Degree of Lagos State University or any University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division with a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.).
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

B. Institute of Maritime Law:
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime and Commercial Law
The following are required for admission:
a. Bachelor of Law (LL.B) with Third Class Division and a B.L .
b. University Degree in any discipline and NOT less than Second Class Lower.
c. Other relevant professional
qualification(s) like AIB, ACCA, ACM etc.
Duration: Minimum of 3 semesters.

ii. Master of Law (LL.M Maritime and Commercial Law):
Admission requirement shall be any of the following recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University
a. Minimum of Second Class Lower Division from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by Senate of Lagos State University with a Bachelor of Law.
b. Bachelor of Law (LL.B) with less than Second Class Lower Division provided the applicants have undertaken the PGD Programme with CGPA of NOT less than 3.0.
c. Bachelor of Law (LL.B) with Third Class Division PLUS ten (10) years post-call to Bar experience.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

iii. Master in Legal Studies (MLS)
a. A good honours degree in any discipline from LASU or any other University recognized by Senate of LASU.
b. Possession of Professional Certificate such as ACCA, ACIS, IPM, AIB e.t.c
c. HND in relevant disciplines with a minimum of lower credit and a minimum of three (3) years post qualification working experiences.

As an added advantage, candidates who are working in government Institutions and organized private sector would be favourably considered.
Duration: Minimum of four (4) Semesters and Maximum of six (6) semesters.

iv. LL.M Law of Taxation

a. a good honors degree in Law with at least second class lower division
b. a good mixed degree in Law and any of the Social Sciences with at least second class lower division may be considered
c. Holders of degrees specified above with less than second class lower division who
have acquired five (5) years post qualification may be admitted.
Duration: Minimum of 2 semesters and maximum of 4 semesters.

v. MLS Law of Taxation

a. a good degree in Law from a recognized University.
b. A good mixed degree in Law and any other Social Sciences may be considered
c. Holders of Degree above with less than second class lower division who have acquired five years post graduation experience may be admitted.
d. candidates processing M.Sc in Taxation, Accounting, Economics or any other relevant discipline with a minimum of second class lower division
e. Holders of professional qualifications in Taxation, Accounting or related disciplines. May also be considered for admission.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters.

vi. M.Phil/Ph.D
An applicant for the Master of Philosophy shall be:
a. A graduate of the Lagos State University or any other recognized University approved by the Senate of Lagos State University with at least a Second Class [honours] [Upper Division] or its equivalent at the LL.B level;
b. A graduate of the Lagos State University or any other approved University with a CGPA of not less than 3.5 points at the completion of the LL.M degree.
ix. Ph.D
An applicant for the Doctor of Philosophy [Ph.D] of Law shall be a graduate of the Lagos State University with a CGPA of not less than 4.0 points at the completion of the LL.M degree.

NOTE:
The LL.M degree of the Lagos State University will run for four [4] academic semester and shall be by course-work and dissertation. Examinations shall be administered at the end of the course-work while the dissertation shall be examined by a panel of examiners constituted for that purpose.

7. FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

A. Department of Business Administration
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration.
a. Candidates for PGD Business Administration are required to possess a first Degree in any of these: Business Administration, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Public Administration, Industrial Relations or any of the Social Sciences with CGPA of not less than 2.0 may be considered.
b. Holders of a first Degree in other courses different from the above with minimum of Second Class Lower Division may be considered.
d. Higher National Diploma with minimum of Upper Credit in Business Administration and Management related courses.
e. Higher National Diploma with minimum of Upper Credit in other areas like Hotel Management, Secretarial Studies may be considered.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

ii. Master in Business Administration (MBA)
a. Graduates of Lagos State University and holder of a Degree recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University not lower than Second Class Lower.
b. Holders of Professional qualification i.e. ACA, ACCA, ACMA, ACIB, ACII, CIPM or any other Professional qualification approved by the Senate of Lagos State University in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Insurance, Marketing, Engineering and Allied disciplines. Such a candidate may be considered for admission based on such qualification.
c. HND with Upper Credit in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Insurance, Marketing, Engineering and Allied disciplines provided that such candidate presents a PGD in relevant disciplines.
d. All candidates must possess Five (5) O’ Level credits including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
e. A minimum of three (3) years post qualification and post NYSC working experience in a reputable organization.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

ii. M.Sc. Business Administration

With Specialization in:
(a) Business Administration
(b) Management
(c) International Business

Candidates seeking admission into M.Sc. Business Administration must possess any of the following qualifications:
a. First Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in Business Administration, Marketing, Management, Human Resource Management, Accounting and Banking and Finance.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

B. Department of Industrial Relations & Personnel Management
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources & Industrial Relations
To qualify for admission into PGDHRIR, candidates must possess:
a. Bachelor’s Degree in related or non-related areas.
b. Higher National Diploma (HND) with Upper Credit from an accredited Institution with two years cognate experience.
Duration: Minimum of 3 semesters.

ii. Master in Human Resources & Industrial Relations (M.HRIR)
To qualify for admission into M.HRIR, candidates are required to possess:
a. A Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent from recognized Institution.
b. Candidates with Bachelor’s Degree can be from any discipline.
c. Candidates with HND plus PGD in HRIR, Business Administration or any Social Sciences related course with at least five (5) years cognate experience may be considered for admission.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

iii. M.Sc. Human Resources & Industrial Relations
To qualify for admission into the M.Sc. Degree programme, candidates must possess:
a. Five (5) O’ Level credits including Mathematics, English Language and Economics/Commerce at not more than two (2) sittings.
b. A Bachelor’s degree of Lagos State University or of any other Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University with at least Second Class Lower Division in all relevant management courses and any of the following courses in Social Sciences:Sociology, Psychology, Economics and Political Science.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

C. Department of Public Administration
i. M.Sc. Public Administration
a. At least, five (5) Credit pass at Ordinary Level (GCE, WASC, SSCE, NECO) including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two (2) sittings.
b. A Bachelor’s Degree of Lagos State University or any other University approved by the Senate of Lagos State University with not less than a Second Class Honors, Lower Division in Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology, History as well as Politics, Philosophy, Economics (PPE) combined Honours.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

iii M.Phil/Ph.D Public Administration
Applicants for the admission to M.Phil/Ph.D Public Administration must possess a Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in Public Administration or its equivalent from Lagos State University or any other recognized University whose weighted course work is not less than 3.50 and above.
Duration: Minimum of6 semesters and maximum of 10 semesters. For extension beyond the specified maximum period, a special permission of the Postgraduate Board shall be required.

iv Ph.D Public Administration
Applicants for the admission to Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Public Administration must possess a Master of Science (M. Sc) degree in Public Administration from Lagos State University or any other recognized University whose weighted course work is not less than 60% or CGPA of 4.0 and above.
Duration: Ph.D programme is to run for a minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters. For extension beyond the specified maximum period, a special permission of the Postgraduate Board shall be required.

8. FACULTY OF SCIENCE
A. Department of Botany
i. M.Sc. Botany
a. Candidates must have a minimum of five(5) credits pass inclusive of the following: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
b. Candidates should have a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in Botany or any allied course as recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of 4 consecutive semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.
ii. For extension beyond the specified maximum period, a special permission of Senate shall be required.

B. Department of Fisheries
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Fisheries
The programme is opened to:
a. Holders of Degree in Zoology, Fisheries, Biology, Agriculture, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology (Education) or any relevant discipline with at least a pass Degree Certificate obtained from the Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of the Lagos State University
b. HND or its equivalent in Biology, Agriculture, Fisheries, Microbiology or any other relevant qualification with a minimum of lower credit from an institution recognized by the Senate of the Lagos State University.

ii. M.Sc Fisheries
a. M.Sc Fisheries is opened to holders of first Degree with minimum of Second Class (Lower) Division either in Fisheries, Zoology, Biology, Animal Science, Agriculture or any other relevant discipline from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
b. B.Sc Degreee in Fisheries, Zoology, Biology, Agriculture or any other related discipline with a minimum of 3rd Class in addition to Postgraduate Diploma in Fisheries with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a scale of 5.00 obtained from the Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of the Lagos State University.

iii. M.Phil/Ph.D Fisheries
a. M. Sc. Degree in Fisheries or any other related discipline with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a scale of 5.00 obtained from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of the Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of four [4] semesters.

iv. Ph.D Fisheries
a) M.Phil Degree in Fisheries from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of the Lagos State University.
b. M.Sc Degree in Fisheries or any other related discipline with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a scale of 5.00 obtained from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of the Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of six [6] semesters.

C. Department of Biochemistry
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Biochemistry
An applicant for admission shall be:
a. A graduate of Lagos State University or other recognized University: i.e any First Degree from the Lagos State University and other recognized institution in one of the Biological, Chemical and Biochemical Sciences. (For example Biochemistry, Pharmacology,Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science ,Biology, Botany and Food Technology).
b. A person who holds other qualifications approved by Senate, i.e the AIMLT or HND Upper Credit from recognized polytechnics.
c. In exceptional circumstances, any other person whose educational qualifications and competence for the course of study proposed has been approved by Senate.
Candidates shall be required to undergo a selection test.
ii. M.Sc in Biochemistry
i. Eligibility shall be any of the following:
a. A graduate (BSc) of Lagos State University and other Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University having a minimum of second class lower division in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology and other related Science courses. Graduates from other disciplines related to Biochemistry will be considered on their individual merit.
b. A Biochemistry graduate (B.Sc) of Lagos State University and other Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University with a pass or third class degree, but that has successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Biochemistry with a CGPA of 3.50 and above.

iii. M.Phil/Ph.D in Biochemistry
Admission into the M.Phil/Ph.D in Biochemistry programme shall normally be opened to:
a. First Degree holders whose CGPA is not below 3.5 in the One Calendar year of M.Sc Biochemistry of Lagos State University.
b. Candidates who possess a Master’s Degree of CGPA of 3.5 from other Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.

iv. Ph.D in Biochemistry
Eligibility shall be any of the following:
a. A weighted average of 60% and above obtained from the M.Sc Biochemistry degree of LASU or any other University recognised by the Senate of LASU.
b. A graduate of M.Phil programme of LASU or any other University recognized by the Senate of LASU
c. Candidates who have successfully converted from the M.Phil/Ph.D programme of LASU.
Candidates shall be required to undergo a selection processes.

D. Department of Physics
i. Master of Science (M.Sc) Degree in Physics
a. Candidates for admission into this programme MUST be holders of Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics, OR related disciplines, such as Mathematics AND Electrical Engineering NOT lower than a Second Class Lower Division [or CGPA not below 2.50] of Lagos State University, OR other Institution recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
b. a Physics graduate [B.Sc of Lagos State University and other Universities recognized by Senate of Lagos State University with a pass or third class degree, but that has successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial [or Engineering] Physics with a CGPA of 3.50 and above.

ii. M.Phil/Ph.D in Physics
Admission into the M.Phil/Ph.D in Physics programme shall normally be opened to:
a. First Degree holders whose CGPA is not below 3.5 in the One Calendar year of M.Sc Physics of Lagos State University.
b. Candidates who possess a Masters Degree of CGPA of 3.5 from other Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
However such candidates may be required to take courses as the Department may prescribe.

iii. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree in Physics
Admission into the Doctor of Philosophy in Physics programme shall normally be opened to:
a. Candidates who have attained at least a 60% level of pass, OR a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.0 in the Master of Science M.Sc Degree in Physics programme of Lagos State University AND who have made satisfactory progress in their projects.
b. Candidates with the Master of Science Degree in Physics, Degree of other recognized Universities, AND whose performance is adjudged to be adequate for the course.
However such candidates may be required to take courses as the Department may prescribe.

Duration
The Master of Science Degree in Physics programme will run for ONE (1) Academic calendar, (two semesters) in the case of full time participation whereas part time participation will be for TWO (2) Academic Sessions (four semesters).

For the Master of Philosophy in Physics programme students are expected to a minimum spend ONE (1) academic session and maximum of TWO (2) Academic Sessions (four semesters).

The Doctor of Philosophy in Physics programme shall run for a minimum of SIX (6) Semesters AND maximum of TEN (10) Semesters.

E. Department of Computer Science
i. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Computer Science
The criteria for admission into the PGD in Computer Sciences Programme will be as follows, provided that the candidate has five credit passes including English, Mathematics, Physics and any two science related subjects:
a. Candidates with Bachelor degree or its equivalent in computer sciences, computer education, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Engineering from a recognized University with a minimum of a third class division.
b. Candidates with Bachelor degree or its equivalent in Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Administration or any other science related course from a recognized University with a minimum of second class lower division.
c. Candidates with Higher National Diploma (HND) or its equivalent in computer Sciences, Mathematics Statistics, Physics or Engineering from a recognized institution with a minimum of lower credits.
d. Candidates with HND or its equivalent in Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Administration or any other science related course from a recognized institution with a minimum of upper credit.
Duration: The PGD programme runs for a minimum of 2 semesters and maximum of 4 semesters

ii. Masters of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science
The criteria for admission into the M.Sc in Computer Sciences Programme will be as follows, provided that the candidate has five credit passes including two science related subjects:
a. Candidates with Bachelor degree in Computer Science of the Lagos State University or its equivalent from a recognized university with a minimum of a second class lower division.
b. Candidates with Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science of the Lagos State University or its equivalent from a recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.0
Duration: The M.Sc. programme runs for a minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters

iii. Doctor of Philosophy (PH.D.) in Computer Science
The criteria for admission into the Ph.D. in Computer Sciences Programme will be as follows, provided that the candidate has five credit passes including English, Mathematics, Physics and any two science related subjects. Note all the conditions below must be satisfied.
a. Candidate must have B.Sc. degree in Computer Sciences or PGD in Computer Sciences from Lagos State University or a recognized university with a minimum of 3.0 CGPA
b. Candidate with M.sc in Computer Sciences of the Lagos State University with a minimum of 4.0 CGPA and thesis score not lower than 60% (B)
c. Candidate must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity, maturity, effective decision making and problem solving potentials.
Duration: The Ph.D programme runs for a minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters

F. Department of Chemistry

i. Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry
Candidates are required to possess:
a. A graduate of Lagos State University or other recognized University: i.e any First Degree from the Lagos State University and other recognized institution in one of the Biological, and Biochemical Sciences.(For example Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Food Science, Biology, Botany and Food Technology)..
b. A person who holds other qualifications approved by Senate, i.e the AIMLT or HND or its equivalent Upper Credit from recognized Polytechnics.
c. In exceptional circumstances, any other person whose educational qualifications and competence for the course of study proposed has been approved by Senate.
d. Candidate shall be required to undergo a selection test and in accordance to all the prevailing university regulations governing postgraduate degree.

ii. M.Sc Chemistry
a. The course shall be open for a admission to Honours Chemistry graduates from Lagos State University and other Universities/Institutions recognized by the Senate, who have obtained not less than a Second Class lower division.
b. A Master Degree programme in Chemistry shall last for a minimum of 4 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters and each student shall renew his/her registration at the beginning of each session.
c. The programme shall run on a full time basis and the candidates may be required to satisfy the Department in a selection process.
iii. M.Phil/Ph.D in Chemistry
Applicants for admission into the programme must possess:
a. Master Degree in Chemistry who has attained a total weight average of 55.0-59% (CGPA 3.50-3.99) pass from LASU. Or any other university recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
b. i. The Ph.D programme shall be open only to candidates having Master degree of the Lagos State University Ojo, or any other approved University.
b. ii. Master degree holder who has attained a total weighted average of 60.0% (GP 4.0) pass in the relevant written examinations of the three semesters M.Sc. programme in Chemistry from Lagos State University (LASU and also obtained satisfactory level of performance in other compulsory courses of the M.Sc. programme.
c. In spite of the M.Sc. courses, 4.0 CGPA graduates from other Universities may be required to audit some courses on the suggestion of the supervisor and ratified by the departmental postgraduate committee.
d. Candidates shall be required in accordance with University regulations to carry out meaningful research and submit a thesis on his/her research for the award of Ph.D degree at the end of at least six semesters. Please note that all Postgraduate programmes require all applicants to possess a credit pass in English Language at the ordinary level.

G. Department of Mathematics
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics
The programme is designed for candidates with weak First Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics Education and other Mathematics based courses.
ii. M.Sc Mathematics
A good bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Engineering, Physics and Computer Sciences or Postgraduate Diploma (with a minimum of 3.5).
Duration: M.Sc and PGD run for a minimum of 18 months on full-time basis.
iii. Ph.D
M.Sc in relevant field with a minimum of 4.0GPA

H. Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology
i. M.Sc. Zoology and Environmental Biology.
a) A good first degree (at least Second Class) in Zoology, Biology or any other relevant course.
b) A Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Resource Management.
c) A Postgraduate Diploma in Zoology, Pest Management, Fisheries etc.
Duration: Minimum of four (4) Academic Sessions
Where a candidate spends more than two academic sessions, he/she shall renew registration at the beginning of the next one. A candidate’s registration shall normally lapse if he/she has not met the requirement for the award of degree after two academic sessions

ii. Ph.D Zoology and Environmental Biology
a. Candidates must have five credit passes including English, Mathematics and two other relevant science subjects at ‘O’ Level;
b. Candidates with Bachelors degree from an approved university must obtain a minimum of second class lower division with a CGPA of 3.0/5.0
c. Candidates must have Academic Master’s degree in relevant areas with a CGPA of 4.0/5.0 and thesis score not lower than 60% [B] d Candidates must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity, maturity and effective decision making and problem solving potentials

Duration: The Ph.D programme is expected to last for a minimum of six semesters for full time and staff candidates. Candidates shall renew registration at the beginning of every session of studentship. To qualify for the award of Ph.D a candidate must:
i. Pass a minimum of 6 units and a minimum of 12 units, including all the compulsory courses.
ii. Satisfy all the requirements of the Postgraduate School.

Areas of Specialization are:
i. Ecology,
ii. Parasitology
iii) Animal Physiology
iv) Pest and Environmental Management
(v) Genetics
vi) Conservation of Bioresource.

9. FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

A. Department of Economics

i. M.Sc. Economics
Candidates to be considered for the M.Sc. Degree in Economics must possess a B. Sc. Degree with at least second class lower division in Economics. In addition, candidates must possess five (5) O’ level credits including English, Mathematics and Economics at not more than two sittings
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

ii. Ph.D. Economics
Entry into the Ph.D. Programme shall be on a competitive basis. The criteria for admitting students to the programme will include the followings:
i. The applicant must have a good Master degree in Economics with course work component from a recognized institution with a minimum weighted average score of 60%
ii. Eligible candidates shall be required to attend an Oral Examination which shall be conducted by the Department.
iii. Candidate will also submit a short proposal on proposed area of research.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 12 semesters.
B. Department of Geography and Planning
i. M.Sc. Geography
Candidates must possess a good bachelor’s degree not less than second class lower in Geography or relevant course with at least CGPA of 3.0 obtained from Lagos State University or any other recognized University.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.
ii. M.Phil/Ph.D. Geography
Candidates must possess a weighted average of 55% to 59% obtained from the M.Sc. Geography degree of Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of 8 semesters and maximum of 10 semesters.

iii. Ph.D. Geography
A Candidate can be registered for the Ph.D. programme if he/she fulfills any of the following conditions:
a. A weighted average of 60% and above obtained from M.Sc. (Geography) Degree of Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
b. Candidates who successfully converted from the M.Phil/Ph.D. programme of Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters.

C. Department of Sociology
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work
Admission requirement includes any of the followings:
a. A first degree from any recognized University with minimum of Third Class Degree
b. Certificate in Registered Nurses, Mid-Wives and other Para-medical personnel who also hold Post Basic Qualification
c. Professionals in other relevant disciplines as approved by the University Senate.

d. Holders of the Higher National Diploma or its equivalent.
e. Higher Degree in any discipline relevant to social work profession.
f. Five Credits in ordinary level certificate, WASC, SSCE, NECO etc with at least a pass in Mathematics.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

ii. Master in Social Work
a. Graduates of Lagos State University and holders of a Degree recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University not less than Second Class Lower in the following disciplines: Sociology, Law, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Community/Public Health, Medicine or any other relevant fields of study.
b. Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work.
c. Five Credits in ordinary level certificate, WASC, SSCE, NECO etc. with at least a pass in Mathematics.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters.

iii. M.Sc. Sociology
a. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree not less than Second Class Lower in Sociology or relevant course with at least CGPA of 3.0 obtained from the Lagos State University or any other recognized University
b. Holders of the Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree of Lagos State University with at least 3.0 CGPA.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

iv. M.Phil/Ph.D. Sociology
A. Candidates can apply for the M.Phil/Ph.D. Degree if he/she fulfills any of the following conditions:
a. A weighted average of 55% to 59% obtained from the M.Sc. (Sociology) Degree of Lagos State University.
b. A weighted average of 60% and above obtained from M.Sc. (Sociology) Degree of Lagos State University or any other Universities recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

D. Department of Political Science.

i. M.Sc Political Science
a. University graduates of Political Science with minimum of Second Class [lower division] from the Lagos State University and any other recognized University by the Senate of the Lagos State University and who meet the University’s matriculation requirements including credit pass in Mathematics and English language at the 0/level in not more than two [2] sittings.
b. candidates would be required to undergo a selection process involving written and oral examinations.
Duration: Minimum of 4 Semesters and Maximum of 6 Semesters.
ii. M.Phil/Ph.D.
a. Candidates must have the university minimum requirement for a B.Sc degree in Political Science including credit pass in Mathematics and English Language at the 0/level.
b. Candidates with M.Sc Political Science with CGPA weighted average not less than 4.0 is required for Ph.D and not less than 3.50 is required for M.Phil/Ph.D, apart from other pre-requisites spelt out 5 in the University regulations for postgraduate studies.
c. A brief satisfactory statement of research in the intended area of research and an oral Ph.D qualification examination by a multi-disciplinary panel constituted by the Department.

iii. Ph.D
Application for the admission to Doctor of Philosophy [Ph.D] in Political Science must posess a Master of Science [M.Sc] in Political Science with CGPA weighted average not less than 4.0, apart from other pre-requites spelt out in the University regulations for postgraduate studies.

Also admission requirements include a brief satisfactory statement of research in the intended area of research and an oral Ph.D qualification examination by a multi-disciplinary panel constituted by the department.

Duration: Minimum of 6 Semesters and Maximum of 10 Semesters
For extension beyond the specified maximum period, a special permission of the Postgraduate Board shall be required.

10. SCHOOL OF TRANSPORT

Master of Transport Planning
a. Candidates for Masters in Transport Planning programme of the School of Transport, must possess (5) O” level Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any three other subjects from Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Sciences, Engineering and Arts in addition to the following:
b. B.Sc. Transport or related field of studies not below Second Class Lower 2.2 from Lagos State University or any other Institution recognized by LASU Senate in Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Sciences, Engineering and Arts.
c. Considerations may also be given to holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) not below lower credit who in addition MUST possess the Postgraduate Diploma in Planning Studies or related discipline from LASU or other institutions recognized by LASU Senate in Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Sciences, Engineering and Arts etc or full membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
Duration: The programme runs for Two (2) Academic Sessions. (Four 4 Semester)

11. LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION (LASUSOC)

i. Postgraduate Diploma in Communication Studies
a. Applicants with first Degree not lower than 2nd class lower in any field of studies from an approved University.
b. Applicants with a 3rd class degree in Communication and related disciplines.
c. Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Upper Credit.
However, holders of HND are not eligible for M.Sc admission after the PGD.
d. Five Credits O’ level including English Language, Mathematics, and Literature in English.
Duration:

ii. Master in Communication Studies (MCS)
a. A good first degree not below Third Class with two years working experience in Communication related industries.
b. Higher National Diploma not below Lower Credit with at least three (3) years cognate experience.
c. Candidates with any of the following professional qualifications (APCON, NIPR, CAM, NIMARK, DIPLOMA etc),
d. Five credits in O’ level including English Language (Credit in MATHEMATICS IS NOT REQUIRED, for admission into MCS Programme.
Duration: Master in Communication Studies (MCS) will run for four (4) semesters that is two (2) academic sessions.

iii. Master of Science in Communication Studies (M.Sc)
a. A good first Degree not below Second Class Lower in Mass Communication or related disciplines from any approved University.
b. Postgraduate Diploma of this School or any approved Communication Institutes with a cumulative grade point average of not below 3.0 (50%) provided the candidate posses a University First degree.
c. Five credits O’level including English Language, Mathematics and Lit.-in-English.
Duration: The duration is four [4]semesters.

iv. M.Phil/Ph.D. Communication Studies
a. Candidate seeking admission for the Ph.Dprogramme must hold the M.Sc degree (Communication Studies) of LASU with a minimum of FOUR (4) Points (on a five- point scale).
b. A candidate from Lagos State University (LASU) with a Master degree (Communication Studies) with not less than 3.5 points on a 5 point scale or from another University recognized by LASU with a Master degree with not less than 3.5 point on a 5 point scale. Such a candidate when admitted shall take prescribed courses and conversion to the Ph.D must pass with a minimum of 4 points on a 5 point scale.
c. Candidate must also hold a bachelors degree (B.A. or B.Sc.) in any area of communication studies with a minimum of second class lower degree or a First degree in any other area of study with a Postgraduate Diploma (Communication Studies) of LASU-AASOC or from institutions recognized by Lagos State University.
d. Candidate must also satisfy the Ordinary Level West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) and other admission requirements as spelt out by the Post Graduate School of Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters.

v. Ph.D. Communication Studies
a. Candidates must have the University minimum requirement for B.Sc. Degree in Communication Studies with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division
b. Candidates must have M.Sc. Degree in Communication studies with a CGPA of not less than 4.0 on a 5.0 scale
c. Candidates must satisfy the school in admission interview.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 10 semesters.

12. COLLEGE OF MEDICINE (LASUCOM) IKEJA

A. Department of Anatomy
i. M.Sc. Anatomy
Applicants for admission into this programme must possess:
a. Five O’ Level credits at not more than 2 sittings in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
b. Graduates of MBBS (MBBch/BDS), B.Sc Anatomy or B.Sc Physiotherapy with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division as recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.

ii. M.Phil/Ph.D. Anatomy
a. Candidates must possess M.Sc. Anatomy with CGPA of not less than 3.5 or B.Sc Anatomy First Class.
b. Five O’ Level credits at not more than 2 sittings in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters.

iii. Ph.D. Anatomy
a. Candidates must possess M.Sc. Anatomy with CGPA of not less than 4.0 b. Five O’ Level credits at not more than 2 sittings in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 10 semesters.

B. Department of Community Health & Primary Health Care.
i. Master of Public Health
a. Applicants must possess O’ level credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
b. All applicants must have completed the NYSC programme or show proof of exemption.
c. A first degree in Science courses (medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and other qualifications that may be approved by the Postgraduate School) with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower
d. Candidates without University degrees should obtain a Postgraduate Diploma prior to application.
e. All candidates should have a minimum of three years relevant post-qualification experience before applying.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters.

ii. Master in Occupational Health (M.O. H)

Admission requirements include:
a. Applicants must possess O’level credits passes in Mathematics, English language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
b. All applicants must have completed the NYSC programme or show proof of exemption.

c. First degree in Science (Nursing, Pharmacy, Environmental science, Pharmacology, Sociology) and other qualifications recognized by the Senate of Lagos state university with a minimum of Second Class Degree Lower Division.
d. Candidates without university degrees should obtain a Post graduate Diploma prior to application.
e. All candidates should have a minimum of three years relevant post-qualification experience before applying.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters.
iii. Master of Occupational Medicine

Admission requirements include:
a. Applicants must possess O’level credits passes in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
b. All applicants must have completed the NYSC programme or show proof of exemption
c. Basic Medical or Dental Degree registrable with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria..
d. All candidates should have a minimum of three years relevant post-qualification experience before applying.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters

C. Department of Pathology & Forensic Science

i. Master in Forensic Medicine.
a. Applicants must hold the MBBS Degree or equivalent qualifications from an accredited Medical School.
b. Applicants must in addition hold postgraduate fellowship qualification in Anatomic Pathology (Morbid Anatomy) obtained either through the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, West African College of Physicians or any equivalent Postgraduate School.
c. All applicants would be required to pass a qualifying examination to be conducted by the Postgraduate School.
d. All applicants will subsequently undergo a selection process involving character evaluation and background criminal check.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters.

ii. Master in Forensic Science.
a. Applicants must have a minimum of B.Sc. Second Class Lower Degree in Behavioural, Biological or Physical Science, Nursing and Criminal Investigations. Graduates of Law and Medicine can also apply.
b. All applicants would be required to pass a qualifying examination to be conducted by the Postgraduate School.
c. All applicants will subsequently undergo a selection process involving character evaluation and background criminal check.
Duration: Minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters.

D. Department of Physiology
i. M.Sc. physiology

a. The programme is open to candidates with Bachelor degree in Physiology, Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacology as well as candidates with professional qualification in Medicine and Dentistry (Fellowship of the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical Colleges, West African Postgraduate Medical College or similar bodies recognized by LASU Senate)
b. Candidates in other related courses recognized by the Lagos State University Senate may be required to satisfy the Departmental selection process.
c. All Bachelor Degrees must not be lower than Second Class Lower Division.
Duration: Minimum of 4 semesters.

ii. M.Phil/Ph.D. in Physiology

This programmes is open to: i. Master degree holder in Physiology who has attained a total weighted average of 55.0-59.9% (GP. 3.50 – 3.99) pass from LASU or other University recognized by LASU Senate.

iii. Ph.D. in Physiology

The programme is open to candidates with:
i. M.Phil in Physiology
ii. M.Sc. in Physiology with a GPA of 4.0 and above from Lagos State University and any other University recognized by LASU Senate.
Duration: Six (6) semesters

E. Department of Medical Biochemistry

i. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

To be eligible for admission, candidates must be holders of
a. B.Sc. Degree in one of the following disciplines: Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Applied Chemistry or any other related field with at least a Second Class (Lower Division) Pass.
b. MB, BS, MB, Ch., or BDS degree
c. FIML/FIST and HND with at least five years post-qualification experience may be considered.
d. Candidates may be required to undergo a selection process that involves written examination and/or interview.
DURATION: The programme shall be for at least Four (4) Semesters

ii. M.Sc. Medical Biochemistry

i. Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Degree in Biochemistry of Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University. Candidates must be holders of a good honours degree not below Second Class Lower Division. Graduates from related disciplines may be considered on individual merits.
ii. Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Biochemistry from Lagos State University with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 3.50 could also be admissible into the programme.
iii. Candidates may be required to undergo a selection process that involves written examination/oral interview.
Duration: Minimum of four (4) semesters.

iii. M.Phil/Ph.D

An applicant for admission to M.Phil/Ph.D in Medical Biochemistry must possess M.Sc. Degree in Medical Biochemistry or Biochemistry from this University or any other University recognized by Senate.

iv. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
The Ph.D degree programme is open to candidate holding M.Phil degree or equivalent in Biochemistry or Medical Biochemistry of Lagos State University or any other university recognized by Senate.
Holders of M.Sc. with Cummunlative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.0.))and above can apply to the M.Phil/Ph.D. programme according to the regulations approved by Senate. Candidates may undergo selection by interview.
Duration: minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 8 semesters.

Duration:The Minimum period of a full time study of Ph.D Degree shall be for six (6) Semesters. Students are required to register every session to maintain their studentship.

-Follow the step-by-step instructions and then complete your application.
-Print out your application form. You can also re-print your application form as many times as you want.
-All applicants shall be required to sit for qualifying Entrance Examination on the Main Campus.

LASU Postgraduate Admission 2017/2018 Application Deadline

Sale of application forms will be closed four (4) weeks from the date of this publication. Application forms for all programmes should be submitted on-line and a copy of the e-Registration slip printed out by the applicant.

NOTE
1. Candidates who have not completed the National Youth Service Corps assignment or their current Postgraduate Programmes need not apply.
2. All academic transcripts must be received latest two weeks after the close of sale of forms.
3. Request for transfer of processed application forms from one Department to another will not be entertained.
4. Candidates must personally attend the selection and written examinations as make-up test will not be conducted.
