Lagos Teachers Afraid of Competency Test:

Teachers in the service of  Lagos State government were  yesterday jittery over plans by the government to conduct assessment test to determine their competence.

The teachers who converged for a sensitisation programme on teachers’ competency test at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium located in the State Government Secretariat said the state government may use the test to weed them out of service.

The  teachers who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity at separate interviews  urged the state government to retrain teachers in public primary and secondary schools.

Speaking at the sensitisation programme , the state’s commissioner for education, Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye said the state government  would  carry out an assessment of teachers in public primary and secondary schools to ascertain their skills and competency levels.

She said the assessment would be conducted within the state`s Teachers’ Competency Framework(TCF)and that the objective was to ensure that teachers had the right competences for optimum performance.

According to her ,“We are carrying out a competency assessment  of our teachers to ascertain their skills and competencies and to see if such competencies match their job responsibilities . (Leadership)
