We won't co-operate with the acting VC after January 13 - UNIPORT ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) chapter has stated that they will no longer cooperate with the acting Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Stephen Okodudu if he remained in office beyond his stipulated term of six months as provided by the Universities (miscellaneous provision) Act 2003.

Chairman of the union chapter, Dr Austen Sado said their stand was as a result of the federal government’s refusal to constitute a Governing Council which was tantamount to the approval of sole administration in the institution.

The ASUU chairman expressed displeasure at the inability of the government to set up a new governing council for the university after the dissolution of the previous one in May 2020.

The union disclosed that the acting VC tenure will end on the 13th of January 202. They further urged the federal government to do the needful, stressing that the absence of a governing council is engineering a crisis in the university.
