ASUU strikes promote Boko Haram ideologies - Governors' Forum

The Director-General of the Progressive Governors' Forum (PGF), Salihu Mohammed Lukman has lamented that the series of strike action embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is helping to promote the Boko Haram ideology of abolishing Western education.

Lukman made this known via a statement titled ''ASUU and Indeterminate Power Struggle - The Boko Haram logic" on Sunday in Abuja.

According to him, ASUU has in the last 21 years, spent over four years embarking on strike. He decried the fact that many respected Nigerian academics have publicly celebrated the fact that ASUU has never lost any struggle against the government, whether military or civilian.

He said, "How can anyone with a child whose dream and aspiration should include being educated, celebrate in any form the closure of schools? What difference is such a logic from the Boko Haram objective of abolishing Western education?

Lukman maintained that a more determined approach is needed to resolving the long-time crisis in the nation's tertiary education sector.

He added that unless both ASUU and the FG are able to produce a clearlt outlined source of mobilizing the funds to implement the provisions of the December 23, 2020 agreement, it is safer to assume that the agreement is already in breach.
