The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the 2019 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). It was gathered that 1,590,173 candidates who registered and sat for the examination, among which 822,098 were male while 768,075 were female, representing 51.70 per cent and 48.30 per cent respectively.
64.18 per cent of the candidates who sat for the examination obtained five credits, a 14.18 per cent increase from the 50 per cent of 2018.
1,309,570 candidates representing 82.35 per cent obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects, i.e with or without English Language and/or Mathematics; while 1,020,519 candidates, representing 64.18 per cent, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
“Of this number, 507,862, that is 49.77 per cent, were males and 512,657, that is 50.23 per cent, were female candidates.
“The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for School Candidates was 50 per cent in 2018,”
It was also disclosed that the results of 1,468,071 candidates, representing 92.32 per cent of candidates that sat for the examination, were fully processed; while 122,102, representing 7.68 per cent of candidates that sat for the examination had a few of their subjects still being processed
Similarly, the results of One Hundred and Eighty Thousand Two Hundred and Five (180,205) candidates, representing 11.33% of the total number of candidates that sat the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice. The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council in due course. The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools.
The council also stated that candidates who are not indebted to the council will be able to access and check their results online, using the results checker pin on their smart identity cards used during the conduct of the examination. Some candidates have confirmed the release of the May/June results at the early hours of Friday,
How to check 2019 May/June result
1) Candidates should visit WAEC 2019 result checking portal at https://www.waecdirect.org.
2) Candidates should enter the WAEC Examination Number in the required column.
3) Select your Examination Year i.e. 2019.
4) Select your Examination Type which is SCHOOL CANDIDATE RESULT.
5) Enter the Card Serial Number.
6) Enter the Card PIN.
7) Candidates should click “Submit” button to get your 2018 WAEC Result.
