Following a series of controversial and diverse reports on the abduction of hundreds of school children in Kankara local government area of Kastina state, the Boko haram insurgents have claimed responsibility for the abduction of 333 students.
The Nigerian army also corroborated the claim and stated that a total of 333 students were kidnapped on the night of 11 December 2020. The abductors reportedly used motorcycles to carry the school children into the bush from where some of the students escaped.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Katsina state governor on Media and Publicity, Abdu Labaran, during an appearance on a radio program on December 14, revealed that the suspected kidnappers have reached out to one of the parents of the abducted students and have asked them to prepare a ransom for their ward's release.
Meanwhile the Katsina state governor, Aminu Bello Masari, also disclosed on Monday, December 14, during an interview with Deutsche Welle, DW Radio that 17 out of the 333 missing students have been found. According to him, the majority of the students were in the forest in Zamfara.
