UNIUYOTH CMD Warns Students to Shun cultism:
The Chief Medical Director, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Etete Peters, has warned students against getting involved in cultism.
This came as he described the West African Students Union Parliament as the harbinger of freedom and quality education in the West Africa sub-region.
Peters spoke in Uyo on Monday when the executive members of WASU honoured him with the Kwame Nkrumah exemplary leadership award.
The CMD urged WASU members to work with appropriate authorities to ensure the eradication of cultism and other social vices.

Cultism, he noted, posed a great danger to students’ development as it prevented them from fulfilling their academic dreams.
Maintaining that the vice was a threat to teaching and learning, Peters urged members of the union to see to the curtailing of the menace.
He said, “You have a big duty as officials of student union in your institutions to perform.
“All the university students in West Africa are looking up to you; you must be bold to defend them, your country and Africa at large.”
Cautioning them against irresponsible student unionism, the CMD noted that any act of irresponsibility on the part of the student leaders often generated negative consequences on the ivory tower.
Peters, who thanked the WASU leaders for the honour conferred on him, promised that the hospital would continue to do its best to provide the right learning environment for its medical students.
The Speaker, WASU and, Mr. Saint Solomon, said the union formed in 1924 by African students has the mandate to rescue students from the jaw of colonialism.
Solomon, a student of the University of Legon, Ghana, explained that the union nominated the CMD for the award due to his record of accomplishment, especially in Internal Medicine. (Punch)
