UNIUYO Student Caught with Explosives

Kufre Anwana a Diploma student of the University of Uyo was on Monday reportedly caught with an Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) by the operatives of Peace on campus Initiative (PCI) in the male hostel.

The IEDs were found in the bag of the suspect by some students who alerted the operatives of PCI who apprehended the boy and invited the anti-bomb squad of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

The squad defused the two improved explosive devices as well as conducted a search round the other hostel rooms.

The suspect who was said to have confessed during interrogation, to keeping the explosives, dismissed that he bought or made them with intent to wreaking havoc on campus. According to him, he found the devices within the school premises, saying he was trying to hand them over to the university’s security.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Etim Dickson, who confirmed the incident, said investigations are ongoing and also stated that the explosives were homemade devices, which could have been invented by any of the science students in the university.
