Gunmen last Wednesday attacked the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof Comfort Ekpo in her residence located at the Ewet federal housing estate, Uyo.
The gunmen were said to have attacked around 11.30pm but were met with stiff opposition as the security operatives on duty engaged them in a gun duel, which made them to abort their mission and zoom off.
In a statement by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Edak Umondak, it was stated, “It has become necessary to alert the public to the escalating violence against our VC, who is passionate about the entrenchment of quality education in the university.”
However, Mr Dickson, the police spokesman in Uyo while commenting denied any attack on the VC saying the VC couldn’t have been attacked since her orderlies were unhurt.
According to him, gunshots were heard in the neighborhood, the police where immediately dispatched to the area and to the VC’s lodge but they found out that everything was normal.
