UNILORIN: Court Upholds VC’s Appointment

A Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, presided over by Justice Olayinka Faji, has upheld the process that produced the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, saying it was constitutional and followed due process.

The trial judge also upheld the appointment of Ambali as UNILORIN’s VC.

One of the contestants for the post of the institution’s VC, Prof. Rasheed Ijaodola, had sued Ambali on his appointment in 2012 as the VC of UNILORIN.

According to a copy of the judgment of the court obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday, joined in the suit were the UNILORIN Governing Board, Alhaji Saka Sa’Adu; Registrar and Secretary to Council, UNILORIN, Profs. Musbau Akanji, Luke Ayorinde and Timothy Opoola, Hassan Saliu. Other defendants included the immediate past VC, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Alhaji Muritala Balogun, Prof. N.Y.S. Ijaiya, Prof. Fajemidagba, Mr. Babatunde Esuola and Mr. T.A. Odele.

Also joined as defendants were President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Minister of Education, and the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission.
