UNILAG staff unions declare support for Registrar and Pro-chancellor

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) University of Lagos (UNILAG) branches have declared support for the institution’s Registrar, Mr. Oladejo Azeez for refusing to carry out the directives of the Federal Ministry of Education on the selection of an Acting Vice-Chancellor.

The unions also expressed confidence in the leadership of Dr. Wale Babalakin’s as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university's Governing Council.

They made this known in a joint memorandum sent to the special Visitation Panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the crisis rocking the university.

The two unions faulted the university's ASUU for ‘attacking’ the office of the Registrar and declaring Babalakin a persona non grata describing it as unfair, unacceptable, and condemnable.

The union urged the visitation panel to address issues concerning stagnation/non promotion of non-teaching workers; the discrimination against non-teaching staff in the allocation of staff residential quarters; among others.
