UNILAG notice on review of some service charges and approval of demurrage payment on certificates

Senate at its meeting of Wednesday, May 31, 2023 reviewed and approved the following fees on services rendered by the University, and also approved demurrage payment on certificates. These charges are listed below:

1.0 Re-Issued Certificates

  1. Cost of re-issuance of burnt/damaged certificates shall be Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50, 000.00) in view of the rising rate of inflation.
  2. Certificates collected with spelling errors attributable to students’ faults shall be re-issued at the cost of Thirty-Five Thousand Naira (₦35,000.00), provided such certificates are returned before the change of signatories.
  3. Certificates with spelling errors made by the University shall be re-issued at no extra cost to the students, provided the certificates are returned for re-issuance before the change of signatories.
  4. Failure to return certificates with errors in (3) above for re-issuance before the expiration of the tenure of the certificate signatories shall attract same payment of Thirty-Five Thousand Naira (₦35, 000.00).

All of the above are in addition to the earlier approved Policy on Certificate Re-issuance.

2.0       Uploading of Documents on Application Portal

The total cost of processing of Transcript for upload shall be Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (₦25, 000.00).

3.0       Inter/Intra Faculty Transfer Application Form

The cost of obtaining the Inter/Intra Faculty Transfer Application Form shall be Twenty Thousand Naira (₦20, 000.00).

4.0       Demurrage Payment on Certificates

  1. Any certificate not collected the year immediately after convocation shall attract a demurrage charge of Ten Thousand Naira (₦10, 000.00).
  2. There shall be an additional charge of Five Thousand Naira (₦5, 000.00) for every year that the certificate remains uncollected. This means that the demurrage charges will be calculated by multiplying the penalty rate by the number of years past the time limit.
  3. All these are in addition to earlier approved charges for convocation and collection of certificates.

Kindly note that the above fees which took effect from May 31, 2023 are subject to review by the University at a maximum interval of five (5) years, in line with the prevailing rate of inflation.
