The lifeless body of a final-year student of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), identified as Stanley Nwanne, was found in his apartment located outside the university campus on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
The deceased, a student in the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, is suspected to have taken his own life after his cousin found him dangling in the toilet with a rope around his neck. The cousin was said to have alerted the neighbors who quickly rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead.
A source close to the student described him as someone who was full of energy and life, and a day before the sad incident, he was said to be preparing for his professional exams scheduled for next month, May.
A classmate of Stanley who spoke anonymously said the incident was unbelievable and that the deceased was doing well academically, and wondered what could have prompted such an act.
