A story was told about a farmer who owned an old mule. One day the mule fell into the farmer’s well.
After a careful consideration the farmer made up his mind that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving.
Next he called out to his neighbors and narrated what happened to them and ask them to help him cover the well with dirt and bury the old mule at least that will help put an end to his misery.
When the mule initially noticed what was happening, he was alarmed. However, as the dirt kept coming on him, It dawned on him that each time the dirt landed on him he sub-consciously reacted by shaking it off and stepping up.
