Teacher arrested for allegedly kidnapping his former pupil in Ogun

A 29- year- old teacher, Odugbesan Samson, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun Police Command, for allegedly kidnapping his eight-year-old pupil identified as Rasaq Akeem.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the report said Odugbesan, who was a former teacher of the boy, allegedly kidnaped him when the boy went to school in Arifanla area of Akute in Ifo Local Government Area and hid him in an undisclosed location.

The suspect was arrested after he reached out to the boy's mother through phone calls, demanding N200, 000 ransom. The victim’s mother, Fatimat Akeeb, reported the incident at Ajuwon Divisional Police Headquarters, where a team of detectives investigated the matter and discovered the suspect’s hideout. He was lured out with part payment of the ransom before he was arrested.

When interrogated, the suspect admitted to committing the crime but blamed it on the devil. The matter has been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
