The 2020 Staff Audit Committee set up by the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) to audit both teaching and non-teaching staff members across the 25 local government areas of the state have submitted a report to the board’s management revealing that 2,286 primary school teachers are using fake certificates.
Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Ayuba Katako made this known in Minna, disclosing that out the 28,058 primary school staff across the state; only 23,721 of them were fit to work. He further stated that the certificates of the affected 2,286 teachers could not be ascertained and some of them could neither read nor write.
Responding to this, the state chairman of SUBEB, Dr Adamu Isah commended the committee for their efforts in conducting a thorough audit exercise based on civil service rules, adding that decisions will be made on those found wanting by the committee.
Dr Adamu mentioned that the Board will verify the authenticity of the certificates with the required institutions and terminate the appointment of fake certificate holders. He also said that any teacher who could neither write nor read would be disengaged as teachers and engaged as cleaners, nannies and some at local government offices based on their capacities.
