Student recounts his ordeal with policemen who extorted him for not using his birth name as twitter username

A Nigerian student, Edobor Efosa, took to Twitter to share his traumatic encounter with bribe-seeking police officers in Lagos state on March 30.

According to Efosa, he was stopped by some police officers and interrogated afterward. Despite not finding any incriminating thing on him, the policemen demanded to search his phone and found his bitcoin trading activities. He was then asked to log into his Twitter account, and the police officers ended up accusing him of being a fraudster because his Twitter username was different from his birth name.

Efosa added that the policemen whisked him away saying they were taking him to the office of the EFCC for prosecution, but however, while they were close to the EFCC office, he was told to give them N5 million to stop his possible detention by the anti-graft agency.
