Six students of Ahmadu Bello University were today presented with different prizes for outstanding performance at the recently concluded 2019-2020 Huawei Nigeria ICT Competition.
The Competition, which was the fifth in the series, had a participation record of almost 15,000 students from over 2,000 colleges and universities in more than 82 countries and regions globally.
Of the six students from Ahmadu Bello University who participated in the ICT Competition, three earned first prize in Network Track globally. They are Hamza Adenoyi Atabor, Emmanuel Abba, and Hamza Beita.
The other three, namely; Mustapha Abdullahi Jimoh, Dahir Muhammad Dahir, and Abdullahi Khalifa Muhammad, bagged the grand prize in Cloud/AI Track at the global final.
In his keynote presentation at the 2019-2020 Huawei Nigeria ICT Competition Award and 2021-2022 Launch Ceremony held at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria today, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, congratulated the students and their instructors on the feat achieved.
He said that the students attended several boot camp trainings both in ABU and Huawei office in Abuja and Lagos since November, 2019 to fully prepare for the global competition.
The Vice-Chancellor also attributed the success recorded to the commitment of the instructors as well as dedication and interest by the students.
Prof. Bala described the feat as “highly commendable”, saying the University would continue to support Huawei ICT Academy.
He assured the global ICT company that the ICT equipment it donated to the University in December last year would be used to train students to acquire hands-on skills to bridge the digital divide in intermediate and advanced technologies in routing and switching as well as security.
Also speaking, the Director, Service Delivery, Huawei Technologies Co. Nigeria Ltd, Melissa Chen, who was represented by Star Shi, said that they came to celebrate “the Nigerian students who have made Nigeria and their school proud” in the recently concluded global ICT Competition.
“We are here today to celebrate excellence, hard work, the future and glory that the Nigerian students have achieved,” she said.
She said that Huawei had been in operation in Nigeria for over 20 years; and in the last three years, the Huawei ICT Academy had invested resources in talent cultivation.
Other prizes presented at the occasion were ICT Academy Instructions Award in 2019-2020, and ICT Competition Students Award in 2019-2020 Regional Awards.
The event was rounded off with the Launch for Huawei ICT Competition 2021-2022 by Director, Service Delivery, Huawei Technologies, Melissa Chen.
