The Students Union Government (SUG) officials of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) was reportedly assaulted by some men of the Nigerian Police within the institution’s premises on Wenesday, 21st Dec. 2016.
The protest of the students against long closure of their school, since June, was frustrated by these security who stormed the school to arrest the SUG leaders. According to the students, this action remains a “huge slap” on the face of the students of the institution and Nigerian students at large.
The students noted that, even though the cause of the assault is yet to be ascertained, even the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), called Joint Action Congress (JAC) of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) could not come to their aid.
The students however has made a plea to authorities to probe the cruel act as soon as possible, to forestall future harassment and police brutality of school students.
