Members of Ezira Community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State have given Prof. Godwin Onu, Rector Federal Polytechnic Oko passmark based on the level of development in the school.
Leaders of the community, who visited the Rector, Prof. Godwin Onu, on Thursday, at Oko called on the major players in the crisis between the host community of the institution and the management to resolve the crisis amicably.
The President of Ezira Peoples Union, Mr. Ebi Godwin, who led the delegation to the polytechnic, said the crisis was a distraction which would not pay any of the parties.
Some members of the Oko community had last week alleged that the rector was plotting to relocate the polytechnic to Ezira, his own community, and therefore called for his removal.
But the Governing Council of the polytechnic dismissed the allegations, saying there was no such plan.
The Chairman of the council, Dr Christian Odukwe, said the allegation against the Rector was untrue and misleading as the rector did not even have the powers to relocate the polytechnic.
He said, “It is a mere plot to smear the image of the school management.”
A group of women from Oko had last week carried a street protest to demand the removal of Onu as the Rector.
They had also blamed him for the subsisting strike by polytechnic lecturers, which has kept the school closed for more seven months now.
