Non-Academic Staff Union Disrupts Mock Exams at OAU Venues

On Monday, 26th Feb 2018, JAMB mock exam was interrupted at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, by  the Non-Academic Staff Union of universities due to the ongoing strike. 

The JAMB mock exam which was held to enable students test their abilities towards the upcoming JAMB exam scheduled between 9th march and 17th march, 2018. 

It was reportedly gathered that the students had already settled in their various halls before the staff stormed into the halls to switch off the electricity supply and sent the students out.

The staff insisted that the exams should not hold while there is an ongoing strike, according to Punch correspondent, the Chairman of SSANU, OAU chapter, Mr. Ademola Oketunbi, said, “We woke up in the morning and found that they were taking a mock test conducted by JAMB, while our national strike was ongoing. You know that our members are the ones in charge of electricity and water. We switched it off and the test was stopped.”

Although the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, and the Police Area Commander in Ile-Ife, Mr. Funso Adegboyega, pleaded with the workers to restore the electricity but the pleas fell on deaf ears.

It should be recalled that the Non-Academic Staff Union on December 4, 2017, embarked on an indefinite strike due to the alleged non-implementation of the agreements they entered into with the Federal Government in 2009 and 2017.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the OAU, Mr. Biodun Olarewaju, alledgely apologised to the candidates, adding that “the issue will be resolved amicably and that such event will never be experienced again as long as he and his league of terms are concerned in the history of jamb.
