Dear Distinguished Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University,

I write this to remind you about the SUG Elections that will take place tomorrow and also to inform you about some facts.

The Students' Union Government popularly referred to as The SUG is a nationally recognised union of undergraduate students of various Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria which Nnamdi Azikiwe University is among.

The SUG protects the interests of students at the university level while the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS protects the interests of students at the National Level.

I will focus mainly on the SUG in this writeup because it is closer to students.

In this institution, many students have been asking whether there is any SUG. Some said they only notice the SUG any time the union president drives up and down with his official vehicle.

In fact, majority of the students always lament that apart from the Office of the Union PRO, others are as good as dead. I can't blame these views because sincerely, I don't feel any impact of the union on the students and I even suggest that the union should be scrapped and only the Office of the PRO retained and be renamed Students' information office. This is because I don't see any need for other positions because retaining them will only amount to further embezzlement of funds and disappointment.

The SUG had instead of efficiently and wisely controlling transport fares, house rents and even the prices of goods and services within the university campus in a way that will serve the interests of students, embarked on imposing various kinds of taxes on drivers and goods dealers within the university campus thereby leading to abnormal increase in the prices of goods and services.

Also, The SUG has failed to lobby the landlords to reduce the house rents they charge students to a reasonable rate.

It is so sad that students now pay as high as N100,000 and above for just a room at Ifite.

The outgoing SUG President has failed to inform students about the reason for the so many abnormalities that were witnessed during his regime and The outgoing Vice President is also yet to write an open letter to students to clarify some issues as she promised.

Dear Zikites, Be wise and vote without sentiments!!!

Thanks and Remain Blessed.
