NMCN Gives Full Accreditation Status For Nursing Programme In UNIMED

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)recently visited the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Ondo State for accreditation of the new programme (Nursing) recently added to the list of programmes offered in the institution and it is with great confidence the management of UNIMED announce that the accreditation was successful hence the full accreditation for the Bachelor of  Nursing Sciences programme.

Full accreditation status is usually for a period of five (5) years with a yearly intake of Seventy-Five (75) students, after which the Department will be reassessed to ensure standards are maintained.

The yearly intake of Seventy-Five (75) students, as approved by the NMCN, represent a fifty percent (50%) increase in the total number of candidates that will be admitted for the programme in subsequent academic sessions and any violation of the above could alter the current accreditation status.

This development follows the visit of members of the Council to the University in February 2021 and it means that Nursing Students of the University who are presently in 500 level will graduate as and when due.

UNIMED VC, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi lavished encomiums on the NMCN for sustaining and maintaining excellence in nursing education and practice and promised that the University will continue in her pursuit for academic excellence.

The VC further appreciated and expressed his heart felt satisfaction towards the NMCN and Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of Ondo state for his unwavering support to the University, adding that his inputs in UNIMED led to this achievement (full accreditation status).

Also appreciated are the Governing Council under the leadership of the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Temitayo Fawehinmi, the Management, Senate, the academic and nonacademic staff of the university as well as Students of UNIMED of the institution.

Also recognized are the current Acting Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Science, in person of Dr. Bridget Akin-Otiko as well as other members of the Faculty for the cooperation and self-service towards the actualization of the accreditation status.
