NAAT Demands Proper Disbursement of N200Bn Intervention Funds by FG:

The National Association of Academic Technologists has demanded proper disbursement of the N200bn intervention funds released to the universities by the Federal Government.

This came as it accused the Federal Government of not respecting the agreement it had with the association in 2009.

The National President of NAAT, Mr. Suleiman Sani, stated this during the foundation laying ceremony of the association’s national secretariat at the University of Abuja.

In a statement on Monday, Sani said, “We have already spoken to the government. Again, we thank God that we have the NEEDS Assessment Committee in place, and we have made our complaints to the committee and we hope that the N200bn given to universities will be used judiciously because allocation papers have already been given to them and this include purchasing of laboratory equipment and building of standard laboratory.”

According to him, though NAAT believes in dialogue, it will not hesitate to embark on strike, if the Federal Government fails to meet the association’s demands on improved education standard and good learning environment in the universities.

Lamenting the poor standard of laboratories in the nation’s higher institutions, Sani called on the NEEDS Assessment Committee and the Implementation Monitoring Committee to ensure the provision of standard laboratories and equipment in schools.

Sani said, “We don’t have enough laboratories. We have made presentations to the government that the equipment we have in our laboratories are not enough.”
