Some parts of a male hostel at the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, was on Wednesday gutted by fire.
The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Aliero on Wednesday, that five rooms were burnt in the incident.
Prof. Zuru, however, said nobody died and no one was injured during the inferno.
He said the 50 students affected by the disaster would be relocated to other hostels, while the destroyed section would be rehabilitated after verification of the extent of damage.
He praised the students who succeeded in putting out the fire, adding that “a committee would investigate the cause of the fire, extent of damage and cost of rehabilitating the structure”.
The Commissioner for Science and Technical Education, Alhaji Ruwa Dakingari, who led top officials of the ministry to inspect the damage, said the government would design measures that would prevent further outbreak of fire in the state’s higher institutions.
