The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has stated that about 25 persons have been arrested by the board following their involvement in illegal registration of candidates, selling of registration documents which are meant to be free and extortion.
This was disclosed by Dr Fabian Benjamin, Head of Public Relations of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board during an interview.
According to him, this development followed reports by candidates that some persons were selling the registration documents higher than stated by the Board.
This made the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit to swing into action and with the help of a combined team of Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU); members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force the culprits were apprehended.
It was learnt that the culprits were selling JAMB syllabus and e-Brochure which was meant to be free at the cost of N800 to the candidates and also inflated the registration cost.
He urged applicants seeking to register for the forthcoming UTME to go about their registration in line with due processes, to avoid hitches associated with irregularities and emphasized that JAMB would stick to its stipulated period of one month for outright registration for this year’s examination.
