Iwuanyanwu Appeals To FG To Upgrade Alvan Ikokwu College Of Education To University

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to upgrade Alvan Ikokwu Federal College of Education, Owerri to a university.

Iwuanyanwu made the appeal at a rally to receive former PDP members back to the party in Owerri on Saturday.

He said the upgrade was necessary as the infrastructure to make the college of education a university was already in place.

He also asked that the Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri , be made a medical school using the Federal Medical Centre in the state.

Iwuanyanwu, also a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, thanked the President for transforming the airport in Owerri into an international Cargo Airport and for his other achievements.

He thanked the President for welcoming the returnees and pledged the unalloyed support of the people of the state to the president in 2015 Presidential Election.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, commended the people of Imo for coming out en-mass to welcome the president.

She thanked the president for the numerous projects his administration had embarked upon in the state since he assumed duty and promised that the state would not let him down.

A former governor of the state, Chief Achike Udenwa, expressed gratitude to the president for honouring his request to come personally to receive the returnees to PDP.

He said the presence of the president and the mood of the masses was an indication that the state was back as a PDP state.

The National Woman Leader of PDP, Mrs Kema Chikwe, expressed gratitude to the returnees and to the president for finding time to welcome them.

She said the state would continue to support the transformation agenda of the president and urged the returnees to ensure that they worked as one with the party in the state. (NAN)
