After going through JAMB and UNN Post UME exams, the next thing would be to calculate your aggregate score to check if you meet the departmental cut off mark and therefore know your chances of getting admitted. However, most candidates do not know how to calculate UNN aggregate cut off mark.
In this article, you find the accurate information on how to calculate UNN aggregate score and other information that would help know your chances of being admitted to study your preferred course in UNN.
University of Nigeria, Nsukka is one of the prestigious federal universities in Nigeria. It is a full-fledged university which means it teaches every course you can find in any other university in Nigeria. This, in turn, makes it one of the most competitive universities in Nigeria with tens of thousands of candidates applying for a chance to get admitted to study in the university. Unfortunately, UNN only admits about 20% of the total number of applicants which means you would have to perform exceptionally and get a good aggregate score that will give you an edge over other candidates.
What is An Aggregate Score or Cut Off Mark?
The aggregate score is the final mark a candidate has after summing up his JAMB and Post UME scores. For some universities, your O’Level grades would also be required to calculate your aggregate score, however, UNN only uses your JAMB and Post UME scores.
It is important you score high in both exams to ensure that your aggregate score is above the departmental cut off mark for the course you wish to study.
How to Calculate UNN Aggregate Score For 2023/2024 Session
UNN uses a different formula to calculate its aggregate cut off mark. You can find other universities like UI making use of a 50% JAMB and 50% Post UME formula, UNN, on the other hand, uses a 60% JAMB and 40% Post UME formula.
This means more emphasis is placed on your JAMB score than your Post UTME score.
JAMB gives a total of 400 marks in its UTME exam and the same goes for UNN which gives 400 marks in its Post UME exam.
To calculate your aggregate cut off mark you would need to know your JAMB and Post UTME score. When you have this information handy, you can follow the calculation process below.
Multiply your JAMB score by 0.6
Multiply your Post UME score by 0.4
Add up the result to get your aggregate score
For example
Let’s assume that a candidate Mr. Nsukka scores 260 in JAMB and 280 in Post UME. Mr. Nsukka can calculate his aggregate score by
JAMB = 260 x 0.6 = 156
Post UME = 280 x 0.4 = 112
Adding up… 156 + 112 = 268
Mr. Nsukka’s aggregate score is 268.
UNN Departmental Cut Off Mark For 2023/2024 Session
As stated above, your aggregate score will determine if you meet up to the departmental cut off mark and thus determine your chances of getting admitted. For example, if you Mr. Nsukka hope to get admitted to study Law in UNN and has an aggregate of 268, he will not get admitted as the departmental cut off mark for Law is much higher. Thus, the university will have no other choice than to give Mr. Nssukka a different course.
Below is the cut off mark for all departments in UNN.

Just like many other universities, UNN tends to favor indigenes over other candidates. The university which is located in the South-East also favors candidates from the South-East than candidates from other zones in the country.
This means your chances of getting admitted into the university is quite slim if you are not an indigene of the state or if you are not from any of the states in the South-East. You could also find yourself sidelined even though you are able score up to the departmental cut off mark.
However, UNN still remains one of the best universities in Nigeria and this is one of the reasons why it is a top choice for many candidates seeking for admission in the tertiary institution.
That concludes the article on how to calculate UNN aggregate cut off mark. Always ensure that you keep the departmental cut off mark of the course you wish to study in mind and work hard to score above this mark. The higher your aggregate score, the higher your chances of getting admitted into the department of your choice.
