Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Earmarks N140m for Oversea Staff Training:
The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), said on Monday it earmarked N140 million for oversea training of staff as a strategy to position the institution as a player in the global academic activities.
Prof. Isaac Azuzu, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Oye.
“Recently, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) gave a grant of N140 million to FUOYE for staff development which necessitated the management to set up a committee of eminent professors from various disciplines.
“ The committee is processing applications from lecturers who will benefit from the oversea training.“

He said that university system in the country was in dire need of a new vision and a new assurance of its essence in national development.
The vice-chancellor stressed the need for the university to place priority on qualitative human capital resources to attain the new paradigm.
“FUOYE is committed to human capacity building of its staff to achieve its objectives because no one can give what he or she does not have.
“In addition, the university has introduced entrepreneurship skills into its programme, so that it will enhance provision of liberal education that goes beyond the strict confines of specific academic disciplines.
“It will thereby make the institution to produce well-rounded graduates with distinct advantages to make their way in life, “he said.
On discipline, Azuzu said that the institution had zero tolerance for cultism, warning that anyone caught involved in it would be expelled “no matter how highly influential the parents may be”.
“Under no condition should students embark on a willful destruction of the university property. “
He also admonished students of higher institutions in the country to find legitimate and rational ways to express their feelings without violence and wanton destruction of public property.
Azuzu, however, commended the Federal Government for funding university education to match the country’s determination to be among the 20 leading world economics in 2020.
He appealed to private industries and individuals to assist government in funding education sector, saying that government alone could not carry the burden of the sector. (NAN)
