FG sets up visitation panels, whitepaper committees over ASUU strike

Following the one-month strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government has announced the setting up of 21 panels to draft the whitepapers for the reports of the visitation panels earlier sent to Nigerian higher institutions to review their activities.

The whitepaper report had been submitted to the federal ministry of education back in August 2021 after the conclusion of reports of the panels constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2021 to visit 88 tertiary institutions across the country.

The committee which was set up based on ASUU's recommendation was tasked with reviewing activities in Nigerian tertiary institutions with a view of proffering solutions to issues raised by the union. The Minister of State for Education, Chukuwuemeka Nwajiuba while receiving the report had promised that the government would give adequate attention to the recommendations contained in the reports.

Before embarking on the strike, ASUU had complained that several months after the submission of the reports to the government, the whitepapers were yet to be released.
