This is the cry of despondent students
All hope is hanging! Students are back at Cursed be that institution that does not rise to the call of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. However, should we go on strike, forsake teaching the students and burn down the infrastructure? Demolish the monumental pillars and uproot the substratum and the foundations upon which universities are built?
Should the Deans also go on strike? Should promotion meetings with Appointments and Promotions Committee be avoided? Should interview meetings for regularization of appointment of staff on temporary appointment be deserted? Should post-UTME screening be not supervised? Should lecturers abandon classes while on recess? That will lead to chaos.
In the words of Benjamin Franklin, ‘’For the want of a nail, the shoe will not be lost. For the want of a shoe, the horse will not be lost. For the want of a horse, the rider will not be lost. For the want of a rider the battle will not be lost. For the want of a rider, the kingdom will not be lost, all for the want of a horse-shoe-nail. The Federal Government should implement the ASUU-Federal Government agreement of 1999 so that education may be what it should be in Nigeria.
