FG blames ASUU strike for the non-payment of bursary to education students

The Federal Government has blamed the strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as the reason for not disbursing education grants to university students across the country.

The Permanent secretary of the ministry of education, Andrew Adejo, during the 2022 World Teachers Day press briefing held in Abuja said the ongoing strike hindered the government from paying education students' their bursary as earlier promised by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He stated that though the implementation process has commenced, the government was, however, unable to get all the necessary data from universities to process the payment, due to the closure of schools.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had through the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu announced that undergraduates of B.Ed/B.A. Ed/BSc. Ed in Public institutions will be paid a stipend of N75,000.00 per semester while NCE students will get N50,000.00 as stipends per semester.
