The Dean, School of Sciences, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Prof. Ibiyinka Fuwape, has charged graduating pupils of the FUTA Staff Secondary School to be positive change agents as they move onto the next level in their education.
Fuwape, who gave this advice during the prize giving ceremony of the school, added that they should make the sky the starting point of their lives and not the limit.
While advising them to dream beyond where they are now, she said, “Although, you may say the days of wearing uniform are over, please, do not forget all the training you have received. I charge you to be a catalyst and change agents because until you step out, you will never stand out.”
Fuwape, who noted that education was not just about rewards and results but about developing a person who can impact the world, called on them to measure their success in life by the level of their impact on the society and not by material acquisition.
She urged them to allow God to guide them in taking decisions in life.
The lecturer also reminded them not to forget the school that nurtured them when they make it in life.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, who was represented by the University Librarian, Dr. Zacheus Oguntuase, had called on the graduating pupils to join hands to transform the school to a globally competitive institution.
Congratulating the management, members of staff and pupils of the school, Daramola said, “I wish to state categorically that the school has not disappointed the university. In fact, more than 50 per cent of our best undergraduates are products of this school.”
The Chairman, FUTA Staff Secondary School, Management Board, Prof. Oyedapo Fagbenro, and the School Principal, Dr. Margaret Fasakin, showered encomiums on the VC, for what he called his love for the school while serving as Chairman and even now that he is the Vice-Chancellor.
Some of the pupils of the school entertained guests with cultural dance and choreography.
