The third COEASU South South Conference scheduled for 15th – 18th April, 2014 was officially declared opened by Prof. Hope Eghagha, Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education at a ceremony held in the school of Science Education auditorium at the permanent site of Federal College of Education Technical, Asaba on 16th April, 2014. He welcomed all participants who were present and charged them to make useful recommendation on how Education can be used for social reconstruction and transformation by the government, political class, individuals and the society at large.
The ceremony was accompanied by a musical fanfare and projected images of the theme of the conference ” Education for Social Reconstruction and Transformation” The ceremony brought together diverse attendees in a forum for sharing knowledge, discussing common problems and challenges with respect to the theme of the conference. In a key note remark by DR N.I Ezoem, Provost Federal College of Education Technical, Asaba, acknowledged that at the end of the conference, everyone privileged to participate would go home with new ideal that would assist individually or collectively in the discharge of professional responsibility with a view to further achieving the goals of Education in Nigeria.
The lead Paper Presenters, namely Dr Festus Akpotohwo of the Niger Delta University Balyesa State and DR Friday Eduwen of the College of Education Ekiadolor, Benin City, Edo State highlighted the role of Education in the emancipation of people from barriers and bring about the needed social reconstruction and transformation and also the indicators for Education for social reconstruction and transformation.

During the Opening Ceremony, awards were presented to distinguished personalities who have carve a niche for themselves in the field of staff development, infrastructural development and leadership by the COEASU South South Zone. These personalities were Dr Patrick Uko, Provost, Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Dr N.I Ezoem, Provost, Federal College of Education Technical, Asaba and Comrade Agba Linus Agba, Coordinator COEASU South South Zone.
The conference local organising Committee prepared an excellent program consisting of pedantic plenary and parallel sessions where scholarly papers were presented.
An informal reception/entertainment was held in a dinner party organised at the end of the conference. The conference truly created an avenue where academics, teachers, political class, researchers, social and economic actors collaborated and discussed on how Education can be used for Social Reconstruction and Transformation.
