The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole urged students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) never to shy away from taking up leadership roles in the society and providing good governance for the country.

Dimeji Bankole has tasked students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) never to be shy from taking up leadership roles and provide good governance for the country. Rt. Hon. Bankole gave the charge during the 4th Legislative/Leadership Summit held recently in the University with the theme: Good Governance, Adequate Security and Youth Empowerment: Tripod for a First Class Nation and organised by the Students’ Representative Assembly (SRA), which is the legislative arm of the Students’ Union of FUNAAB. He charged the students to be firm and resolute in taking part in political activities going on around them.

The former Speaker tasked the students to develop positive attitude towards the state of the nation by making the right choice during elections. While thanking God for his life so far, he attributed his success to Him, as he charged the students to make their education a priority, noting that “there is no success without succession, for what you become today, will rub-off on your children”.
Also speaking at the event, the Comptroller of Immigration, Ogun State, Mrs. Victoria Isang, described the roles of parents and government as unparalleled in empowering the youths. She said special attention should be accorded education as a major tool for empowerment, noting that any nation that failed to educate its teeming young people was bound to fail. Comrade Titi Matesun of the Development Finance Office, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), described the youth as the engine room of any nation’s labour force, as he called on the students to imbibe entrepreneurship, in order to be successful in life. Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole of FUNAAB, who was represented by the Dean, Student Affairs, Professor Yemi Akegbejo-Samsons, commended the students’ body for putting up the programme which he said would be of immense benefit to their fellow youths.
Guests at summit include: Hon. Adekunbi Oladapo, who represented Senator Adegbenga Kaka, the Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development; representative of the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi (ASP); Commandant Aboluwoye Akinwande, Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Others are, Mr. Luggard Okonobo, from the Office of the Special Adviser to the Presidency on Student Matters and the Chairman of the occasion, Barrister Ibrahim Lawal, a Senior Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.
