Academic activities in Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, were grounded today following protests by students over alleged refusal of the management of the institution to allow some part time students who had not paid their school fees to seat for examination.
It was gathered that the institution’s security personnel allegedly triggered the riot when they prevented some students, who had not paid their school fees, from writing the examination in accordance with management’s directives.
It was also gathered that some of the students, who forced their ways into examination halls, had their examination booklets torn. The students were said to have resisted, insisting that they be allowed to write the examinations with other students, a development which led to the protest.
The Polytechnic Public Relations Officer, Mustapher Oshiobugie, who confirmed the incident, blamed the riot on students who had not been properly registered by paying their fees.
