The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has distanced itself from some of its members participating in the 2023 elections, saying they do not represent the union.
According to ASUU, they had requested to partake in all the segments of the election, from the polling unit, collation, and announcement, but were turned down by the government, hence their reason for withdrawing from participating.
The union president, Emmanual Osadoke who described the system as ''flawed'' said the union participated in elections during the era of Professor Jega Attahiru but decided to stop as a union because the election process was fraudulent.
He also cited the cases of vice-chancellors who acted as Returning Officers in elections but have no influence whatsoever as they were only expected to announce results that have allegedly been written.
