Provost of the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State, Prof. Adeyemi Idowu, on Thursday said the plan by the Federal Government to upgrade the institution to a university had reached an advanced stage.
Idowu stated this at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Federation of Ondo Ekimogun Students Union, where he was honored with an award of excellence.
He explained that the process had reached appreciate level, especially with the job so far done by a technical committee instituted by the Federal Ministry of Education.
He said, “In terms of staff development, we have tried. We now have an encouraging numbers of our academic staff, who are now PhD holders. In the past, they were scanty but right now many of them had developed themselves by acquiring higher degrees.
“We have also done that in non-teaching area. We have developed our administrative staff to the extent that they can perform efficiently. In terms of infrastructure, I believe we have also tried. We have provided additional lecture theatres, we have adequate facilities to accommodate our students and members of staff better.
“We have connected our facilities to the Internet and students now register online. The main thing is to have a college that is focused, progressive, and a college that is run as a system.”
He commended the national body of FOESU for the honor, stressing that the award would further strengthen him to put in his best.
