After nearly three years of litigation, the Court of Appeal reversed Ngige’s win on March 15, 2006. Obi was sworn in as governor of the state on March 17, 2006. After barely seven months in office, he was impeached by the state house of assembly on November 2, 2006, and was succeeded the next day by Virginia Etiaba, his deputy, who became Nigeria’s first female governor. On February 9, 2007, the Court of Appeal in Enugu reinstated Obi as governor after he successfully contested his impeachment. Etiaba regained control after the court’s decision.

Obi resigned from the administration on May 29, 2007, following the victory of Andy Uba in the general elections. Obi returned to court, contending that the four-year term he won in 2003 actually began to run in March 2006, when he assumed office. On June 14, 2007, the Supreme Court of Nigeria upheld Obi’s claim, and he was reinstalled in office. The election of Obi’s successor, Andy Uba, was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court on April 14, 2007, on the premise that Obi’s four-year term should have continued until March 2010.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Peter Obi the victor of the 2010 Anambra State gubernatorial election, beating Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. As a consequence of this election victory, Governor Obi was re-elected for a second term as governor of Anambra State. Peter Obi finished his second term as governor on March 17, 2014, and turned over the reign to Willie Obiano. Following the 2015 general election, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Peter Obi as Chairman of the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Peter Obi was named as Atiku Abubakar’s vice in the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential election campaign in Nigeria on October 12, 2018. His political party came in second place. On March 24, 2022, Peter Obi announced his intention to run for President of Nigeria on the People’s Democratic Party platform.

Peter Obi resigned from the People’s Democratic Party on May 24 in a letter to the party’s leadership. According to the story, Obi had a premonition that some members of the party planned to humiliate him during the Party’s primaries but being a very intelligent man, he left the party and joined Labour Party. He received his PhD from the University of Westminster in 2006 and worked in the business and banking industries for several years before entering politics.

In 2003, Baba-Ahmed ran for political office on the platform of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), the same year President Muhammadu Buhari ran for president on the same platform.

While Buhari did not win the presidency, Baba-Ahmed was elected to the Federal House of Representatives to represent the Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State in April 2023.He was well-known for his moral activism. He was one of the MPs that rejected former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third term ambition during his government.

In May 2006, he stated that he would not run for reelection unless action was made to investigate suspicions that members were bribed to support the constitutional modifications required for a third term as president.

He ran and was victorious in the Kaduna North Senatorial elections in 2011 as a member of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), which was then led by Buhari, who ran for president again but lost.

The election was contested in court by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, which resulted in Baba-dubious Ahmed’s win being overturned. He contested and wasn’t successful for the PDP presidential ticket in 2018. In 2022, he dropped out of the PDP primary in Kaduna State, claiming his reluctance to pay delegates as the cause.
