A 32-year old final year student of the department of information and technology of the National Open University (NOUN) was knocked down and killed by a Moving truck yesterday at the study centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Kanshio area of Makurdi, Benue State.
According to the information, the motorcyclist carrying the victim attempted to make a turn into the school when the truck driver who was heading towards Aliade, from Makurdi town, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into them, killing the student instantly and leaving the motorcyclist with several degree of injuries.
Students of the institution aggrieved by this barricaded the major highway and would have set the truck ablaze if not for the intervention of the police.
The chaos created by the protest of the students disrupted academic activities in the school and led to the suspension of the Examination.
The police while trying to disperse the students shot several times into the air but the students remained adamant and were throwing different objects at the security operatives demanding that the policemen release the truck driver to them whom was said to have run inside the police station.
