Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam yesterday approved N 2.3 billion to assist victims of Boko Haram insurgency, sponsor WAEC candidates and execute other projects in the state.
The state's Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Goni Fika, who disclosed this to newsmen after the state executive council meeting in Damaturu, said the council approved N187 million to assist those whose houses were burnt and families of those who were killed by gunmen. He said the donation will be given to the victims through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Fika added that the agency established that a total of 99 people were innocently killed, while 135 others were attacked and their houses burnt.
He further stated that the council approved N259 million for registration fees of WAEC candidates in government owned sponsored secondary schools. Fika said the council also approved N653 million for construction of 6.4 kilometre roads and drainages in three estates through direct labour by the Ministry of Works.
