The World Bank has announced plans to partner with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri to control erosion menace in Imo State.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, the leader of the World Bank delegation, Dr. Amos Abu disclosed that the project was aimed at creating a community driven erosion control and watershed management through the implementation of World Bank/Federal Government intervention to fight erosion menace in Imo State.
He further disclosed that the bank decided to partner with the University’s Institute of Erosion Studies in the implementation of the project based on the track record of the Institute and the pedigree of the University.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chigozie C. Asiabaka thanked the World Bank Team for partnering with FUTO on the erosion control project. He stated that FUTO was a foremost University of Technology in Nigeria with requisite personnel to deliver on the project. He added that the Institute of Erosion Studies had successfully partnered with several organizations and was poised to the implementation of the project in Imo State.
The Vice-Chancellor pledged the support and commitment of the University to the implementation of the programme.
Present at the courtesy visit were Principal Officers of the University and the Director, Institute of Erosion Studies (IES).
