The World Bank has offered a $150m education grant to three performing states in the country.
The states which include Ekiti, Anambra and Bauchi are to benefit from the state education programme investment based on six criteria including a track record of reforms and performance as well as demonstrated commitment.
At the formal launch in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike noted that the implementation of the grant to boost basic education would be closely monitored by the local communities.
For hundreds of thousands of children in the three states of Bauchi, Anambra and Ekiti, it is going to be a better life and future, as they stand a huge chance of getting improved quality of schooling through the state education programme investment project by the World Bank.
The education minister stated further that the project will work with the federal government and support education programs of the benefiting states to guarantee improved access and efficiency.
The project will also address gender issues and raise the quality of education by improving teacher availability
