Why standard of education is falling - Educationist

The Chairman, Governing Council, Diadem Group of Schools, Lagos, Mr. Olapoju Oladinni, has attributed the dwindling standard of education to lack of adequate commitment by those who are charged with the responsibility of teaching.

He also blamed poor attitude of government towards proper funding of education as one of the reasons for the decay in the sector.

He noted that teachers at all levels of the nation’s educational system were shirking their responsibilities towards providing and maintaining good standard of education.

Oladinni, who spoke at the maiden valedictory service and first graduation ceremony of Diadem College, Ifako, Gbagada, Lagos, observed that lack of commitment and concentration by teachers and lecturers in the educational system, due to government’s failure to play its part, was responsible for production of half–baked graduates, from the primary to the tertiary level.

He recalled that the idea behind the establishment of Diadem Schools was borne out of a divine instruction and passion for children’s education.

Oladinni called on the private sector to collaborate with the government by investing in qualitative education, because, according to him, government alone cannot adequately fund education.

The Proprietress of the school, Mrs. Abimbola Oladinni, traced the performance of the schools to its commitment to the provision of qualitative and contemporary education for adolescents.

She added, “Our earnest drive towards radical re–engineering in the education sector affords us the unique opportunity to deliver and motivate adolescents to reach greater heights academically, socially and morally.”
