Why I Set Up a University – Oritsejafor

Nigeria’s lady of songs, Onyeka Onwenu, held the massive audience spell bound on a wet Tuesday with two of her scintillating evergreen musical renditions during the ground breaking ceremony of Eagle Heights University, Omadino, Warri South, performed by President Goodluck Jonathan.

It seemed like a musical carnival as “Sisan Odokun” of Omadino community, the Obodo neighbouring community , Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri cultural singers/dancers drawn from the Word of Life Bible Church, took turn to entertain the distinguished crowd which included Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse II, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, Ovie of Uvwhie, Orodje of Okpe represented, other traditional rulers and chiefs.

Shofrtly after President Goodluck Jonathan and his entourage brought in by convoy of NAF helicopters walked into the venue, passing through a red carpet already laid down in the water logged environment as overnight rain fell.

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Chancellor of the university described the ceremony as a milestone in the annals of Word of Life Bible Church, an academic transformation, reflecting on the motto of the institution which is “Building and Equipping the People who Build the Nation. He appreciated President Jonathan, Governor Uduaghan, Atuwatse II, Olu of Warri, spiritual leaders, captains of industry, the academia and Omadino community.

He said that the university was not established to join the rest of private universities in the country, but to produce graduates that are productive, God fearing who should be ready to serve the nation.

As to the vision of EHU, it is in threshold of a revolution, to do the impossible. This university of our dream to become the engine room of academic excellence, overhaul the education system, and engage in productive reforms. (Vanguard)
