The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has promised to protect pupils of Ogba Junior Grammar School from further danger or harm. It also promised to monitor activities in the school for the next three months.
The agency’s General Manager, Mr. Rasheed Shabi, stated this in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday. The school, which reopened on Wednesday, was shut for 16 days following suspected gas leakage from an unidentified source. The suspected gas emission left 13 pupils of the school unconscious.
Shabi said, “We were the ones who instructed the pupils to return to school. I assure you that the place is very safe for them. We identified a pit in the school and we are still investigating the substances we collected. But I have instructed our men to be on standby in the area for the next three months.”
However, when our correspondent visited the school on Wednesday, the number of pupils, who had returned to school was still scanty.
