During the Presidential Taskforce briefing on COVID-19 on Monday August 3, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (MHADMSD) Sadiya Farouq, revealed that the federal government spent about N523.3 million on school feeding programme during the lockdown against the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the minister, in obeying the presidential directive on school feeding the ministry went into consultations with state governments through the state Governor's Forum, and it was concluded that take-home rations for school children remained the most viable option for feeding children during the lockdown.

It was further disclosed that, the meal costs N70 per child, with 20 school days per month, which means a child eats food worth N1,400 per month. Each household is assumed to have three children.

The federal government funded the school feeding program while the states government implements it.
