Wamakko Approves N657 Million For Overseas Scholarship

Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State has approved over N657 million for the sponsorship of 349 indigenes of the state to undertake various science courses in Bangladesh, India and Uganda.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that this is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Sokoto by Isa Shuni, the Information Officer of the state Scholarship Board.

According to the statement, the beneficiaries would undergo courses both at undergraduate and post graduate levels.

It quoted the chairman of the board, Alhaji Jelani Kalgo as saying that “the money would cover tuition, registration fees, accommodation, transportation and other daily needs for the 2014/2015 academic session”.

The statement listed the institutions to include: Islamic University of Uganda, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, India, and International Islamic University in Bangladesh.

In a related development, the governor has also approved over N19 million as scholarship grant to 75 students pursuing degree programmes in Niger Republic and at the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.

Twenty five of the beneficiaries would study degree courses in French Language at Abdoul Moumini University, Niamey, Niger republic, to promote existing bilateral ties between the state and Niger republic.

It further said that the rest were 50 students undergoing preliminary studies at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, who would eventually undertake degree programme in French at the university in Niamey. (NAN)
