The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed that the marking of answer scripts of over 1.6 million candidates, who sat for the May/June 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has begun. The marking of the scripts commenced July 13th, 2022.
According to the WAEC Acting head of public affairs, Moyosola Adeyegbe, who confirmed the exercise, the council would use 85 marking venues across the country, while e-marking venues are located in Lagos, Ibadan and Benin. WAEC said this is to keep up with the practice of releasing candidates’ results 45 days after the conduct of the last paper.
The WAEC Head of national office (HNO), Mr. Patrick Areghan, said the council introduced the operation 45/90 project. He explained that this means that 45 days after the examination was conducted, candidates will get their results while within 90 days, the certificate will be ready.
This means that all candidates who participated in the exam should expect their results to be released by Mid August 2022.
It was gathered that a total of 1,607,985 candidates from 20,221 schools registered for the 2022 examination and about 30,000 teachers participated in the examination as supervisors. The students were examined in 76 subjects, made up of 197 papers. He assured the 1,573,789 candidates that WAEC staff will work round the clock to ensure the results are released on time so that they will use it for 2022/2023 admission exercise.
